9500 K2500 Transmission Problems! Help!

I have a 1995 Chevrolet K2500 4X4 with an automatic transmission. I bought it in april and the guy said he thought it had a rebuilt trans in it but I dont know if it does or not. Last couple of months, its been having some transmission problems. Getting in it first thing in the morning or after work (basically after letting it sit), when you put it in drive ( pretty sure its only drive), when you give it gas, it doesnt want to go anywhere for a second and its like it finally catches gear and takes off. It kind of revs up a little and like I said, its like its delayed going into gear. It will sometimes go forward a little bit at first but until it catches, it wont go far. Also, every now and then, it acts like its slipping a little. I can go to pull out in front of somebody on the road and it will rev up and finally take off again and sometimes tachs out to about 4000 rpm before shifting. The truck has 252,000 miles on it. Any suggestions? Transmission fluid doesnt look too dirty. Could changing the transmission filter help any? Anybody had any luck with aftermarket additives like lucas stop-slip and stuff like that? any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The best dope is NO DOPE.

Yes filter cange may help and look for extra stuff in bottom of the pan.

On the dope.
Never dope a good transmission.
But if the transmission is on the last leg I have saw cases where just plain Lucas transmission additive has helped a transmission live another year or some more miles.

Change filter and make sure transmission fluid level is full hot in park.
Let us know what is in pan and how it does with filter change.

If you are wanting to fix it for a lot more miles and want it to live a long time better be looking for a good transmission or a good rebuild.

With moring sickness and slipping.
I would say you need a rebuild or replace transmission.
Moring sickness and sliping points to internal seals and clutch pack problems
But without proper testing we canot say.
As in post 2.
Check/change filter and install proper fluid and check proper fluid level and tell us what you find in bottom of pan.
Let us know what filter change does.
And we can go from there with help.

First idea is or problem is not enough info from operator.
Have you checked for proper fluid level?
Full hot in park?

the transmission issues you have indicate loss of pressure.

this can be contaminated fluid, dirty filter,worn internal components , any and all of these items..

drop the pan replace the fluid / filter.then see if the problem goes away.

then adding some transmission treatment and after a few hundred miles replace the fluid again.these additives will remove deposits that can aid in restoring the pressure. If components are too far worn or broken then nothing should improve.

post back what you found .

yes fluid is full hot in park. i'll try to change the filter this weekend. thanks for the replies

DO NOT put that Lucas junk in there. It does more harm than good. Several things could be causing your problem including the converter/pump assy. Possibly a converter drainback problem. The previous owner says he doesnt know whether the transmission has been rebuilt or not???? Sounds fishy to me. Why would he not know?? My next step would be to drop the pan and check it real good for debris. Pull the filter and cut it open and examine it real good. Replace the filter and refill and see where it goes from there. Post back with results.
