2002 grand prix doors lock when in drive

this car is new to me and the doors lock when in drive .. that i dont mind but when i place the car back in park they dont unlock .. this is a pain in the butt .. is there anyway to change this or to just have the drivers door unlock ?

I dont think you can change it unless maybe a tech 2 scan tool at the dealership can.

The doors should unlock when you shut off the ignition. if they dont you have a problem.

Did the 2002 have a display in the middle where you can program it like the 05-08? I can change mine w/o a prob.

In my 97 I disabled the automatic locks. I don't have my owners manual in the house but if I remember correctly, there's a procedure in it that can guide you through the process of disabling your automatic lock feature. Not sure if it's applicable in a 2002.

For the 2002 year like other years the power door locks can be disabled when going to DRIVE and set to automatically unlock when shifting into PARK. The procedure is located in Chapter 2 of the Owner's Manual under Multifunction Alarm Locks and Lighting (MALL). There are 4 programmable modes. Modes 1 through 4.
