2007 Corolla S - Pinion Noise
The car is a 2007 Corolla S, Automatic Trans.
I recently started to hear a whinning noise comming from where i guess is the transmission. I went to the dealership to check it out, and they told me it was pinion noise, and its normal, nothing bad. My dads, brothers and moms car does not make this kind of noise. I got only 15k miles on the car, but this noise doesnt seem, "normal" to me. It happens mostly around when first gear is about to switch at about 2k rpm and 10miles per hour. Should i be worried? |

Re: 2007 Corolla S - Pinion Noise
My 2005 CE with 47K has the same high pitch noise in the 35-45mph range. I believe that it is the pinion or spur gear set in the transmission. ( gear mesh) I've moved the transmission lever into neutral at 45mph and the noise goes away while bringing the engine up in the 2500-3000 rpms. Drop it back into drive an back in to the 1800rpms and the noise comes back.
Other than that small quirk in the 1.8L drive train I can't complain. Easy on the gas pedal and try to keep it under 1800 rpms and I can squeeze out 35.6 mpg. |
