Straight pipe exhaust

I have a 1992 eagle talon non turbo 4g63. I recently replaced the stock manifold with a stainless header. I have piping from the header to the cat. I am wanting to bypass the cat and just have straight piping all the way back. What are my options for doing so? (i.e. where to obtain piping, how to bypass cat) I'm wanting to do this without spending an obscene amount of money.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

Well... You could just take it to a muffler shop and tell them what you want on it and they'll do it. Assuming that you are correct about the no emissions law where your at, they shouldn't be able to give you a problem with it then...

However... If your more of a do it yourselfer, you could pick up the piping at www.extremepsi.com and just make the exhaust yourself. I have gotten plenty of piping from them and it's pretty good quality for a decent price...

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

Will I be needing to buy an exhaust system? How would I bypass the cat?

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

You cut the cat off and put a straight piece of pipe in its place....then either weld the pipe onto the existing exhaust, or clamp it.

Yes, but a piece of pipe costs around $5, flanges are like $10, assembly (assuming you pay someone to do) maybe $15-$20. Still comes out a lot cheaper than buying a test pipe like that.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

Geez... I was talking more of just the standard piping so you can do a whole exhaust yourself or have someone else do it that knows how to... That thing is expensive for a little piece of pipe...

True to that too. You can goto Pepboys and buy lengths of pipe for pretty cheap. I made my custom downpipe for about $10 minus the flanges. And all the pieces fit together, they slide in so you just some weld around and nice tight seal.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

You could cut your stock cat off, flanges and everything, that way you just have a missing section of piping there. And we sell straight pieces of piping at advance. You just need to measure your factory piping after you cut it to get the outside diameter. Then buy a piece of straight pipe with the same inside diameter, and slip fit it in place of the missing section, then clamp or weld it on. Its not hard at all.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

Ok. So all I'm wanting to do is get rid of the cat. What kind of clamps can I use that won't require any welding?

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

They're called exhaust clamps which can be found at any autoparts store. Advance Auto for example.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

Why bother on an N/A car? All it will do is increase emissions and sound like a buzzy Honda. No real power to be had.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust

You may gain a little bit of power on the top end but you will loose a good bit of power in the low to mid range.
