Main bearing replacement

I have a 99 Tacoma 2.7L with 280,000 miles. Truck runs great except on really cold mornings I hear a slight knock in the lower end for a few seconds. Has anyone changed their main and rod bearings with the engine in the truck? I did this before on a 4 cyl Ford . Is it a hassle getting the oil pan out of the truck?

Re: Main bearing replacement

I was hearing a similiar noise from my 95 2.7 252,000 a few months back. I was sure I was heading for a major repair.

I switched from 5W30 motor oil to 10W30 and never heard the noise again.
