trying to pick my route
i just purchased a 1990 240sx today
and i know alot about 240's as i was into them long before i was able to find a deal on one worth draning my bank account but, now that i have one i cant help but feel like an sr20 swap might just be a little bit of one of those "to much talk and not enough follow through statements" i really cant see myself following threw with one for at least a couple years so now i ask myself what about the prospect of just doing a ka-turbo?? what do u guys think should i work towards a sr20 or would buying a built ka from boostdesign.com be a better route? |

Re: trying to pick my route
Boostdesigns has been dropped by two of the major KA-T forums I go to. Not to mention the numerous complaints about product quality/customer service.
Just to let you know, by the time you get either of the setups running well, they come out to about the same cost for the same power.

well it wouldn't be much good either way because im gonna be swapping in a dohc motor either way so im still face'd with the problem of swapping a engine

Re: trying to pick my route
yeah but the cost of the engine, turbo, manifold, dp, exhaust, ecu work, injectors, intercooler, intake and whatever else you might want will probably add up to about the same as an sr swap and will put out close to the same numbers. the thing is that the sr will be easier to get power out of from then on cause the internals are set for turbo (which i think is the main issue here) whereas the ka is still sitting at more than 10:1.. to me, an ideal turbo setup with the ka will cost about $5-6000 cause i'd have low comp pistons, ss lines, wire kit, new ignition, all the small things that add up. that way you can boost easy at 8 psi and bump it up to 15 safely

Re: trying to pick my route
5-6000 though will get you an S15 motor/driveline that will take 280WHP on stock injectors and turbo
I need to get a credit card so I can buy that S15 Engine Set on Phase2 for $3800 |

Re: Re: trying to pick my route
if your gona swap in a dohc ka-t might as well do a sr20..
i love the ka-t but if your gona spend the cash to get a motor its gona be a little less headach if you get a sr20det installed properly.. its easier to mod.. you wont have to worry about fmu and internals for a while.. simple bolt ons will get you 250-270 whp on a stock turbo @ 17psi(pro. maxing out the turbo) ka-t with a t3/t4 or a to4e..will get you 250whp with proper fmu and timing @ 10psi on stock internals.. its arguable that the ka internals are good for 15psi stock.. after that you need low comp pistons.. theirs a debate going on about the ka rods snaping around 400whp then they are guys running 500whp with stock rods.. ka motor is a stout motor that can take abuse.. hey how wouldnt like .4l more?,, 1

Re: trying to pick my route
ka more than 10:1??? What kind of ka you got? And remember all that stuff may add up to the cost of an sr...but you wont have stock shit thats been used for who knows how many miles.....

Re: trying to pick my route
single cams are good as well. Some high HP ones floating around out there.
KA-T.org has a section just for SOHC KA-Ts.

Re: trying to pick my route
S15 T28s are good for 17psi... and will put down 320WHP with cams and a standalone.
Hence why the S15 SR20DET > * |

Re: trying to pick my route
im gonna do a singel cam ka rebuild and turbo
with the following http://www.import-autoperformance.co...tage1plus.html stage 1 plus anyone have dealings with these people? or there kits? i was hoping for around 300hp so i would be happy with a kit if it gives me the amount of power i want for just a bolt on prefabed kit then i can focus on other aspects of my car i know alot of people use coilovers like silkroads or teins or someother brand but i was thinking about lowering my 240 with eibach sportlines and kyb gr-2's, i heard somewhere that was a good spring and shock combo for the 240, what do ya'll think? of course i do plan on evenutally getting a set of coilovers probily meagan racing or maybe omnis or whatever i decide, but just to get started |
