95 blazer misfire distributor noise

I have a 1995 s-10 blazer with a 4.3 w motor, truck has 82k on it. A couple weeks ago I had the exhaust replaced and now all of the sudden it's misfiring and what causes the misfire is seeming to come from under the distributor cap. there is a crackling, ticking sound from the cap then the engine misses (scanner says p0306) cylinder 6 misfire. I replaced the cap rotor plugs throttle position sensor, map sensor, there are no vacuum leaks fuel pump was done 1000 miles ago, along with filter. Im running out of ideas, Any suggestions or help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Flat top dist cap or old style cap?

If Flat top check the camshaft retard setting in VCM.
Post back reading.
If old style dist check dist shaft wear and dist gear slack.

Re: 95 blazer misfire distributor noise

I'll bet you have a worn distributor shaft and/or bushing. Take the Distributor Cap off and check for excessive wear and damage to the inside of the cap. Check for damage to the Rotor. Replace either or both if worn.

Last but not least, while you have it apart, see if there is any side to side movement of the distributor shaft by pushing it from one side to the other. It should not have any more than a few thousandths slop in the side to side movement. If you can move it at all, the distributor needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Re: 95 blazer misfire distributor noise

Ok, may have solved what the noise is, but here is where it gets weird. The noise and actions are related to the ignition coil wire arcing to the fire wall and trans fill tube. problem is that i got a new ignition coil and it's not the same. as the stock, the one that is on there now is a male coil wire connection, the one that is called for is a female coil wire connection. No prob got the right one of those now the issue is that the new replacement wires are the wrong connection and will not work, went to 2 different auto parts places by me and could not find a set that matched.
