Thumbs up G8 vs the world...

... ok maybe not the world, maybe some teens in Nissan 240sx's.

But there were hundreds of them I say!!

... ok, maybe 5 of them.

But they had big pointy teeth!

... ok, maybe not.

Anywho, so me and a buddy went out to a local hang out where on Tuesday nights the parking lot gets flooded with 240sx's and various other JDM drift types and a few Honda hatchies. Basically, your typical 'tuner' turn out. Even the stereotypical (cute from a far, but not in direct lighting) asian girls dressed in school girl uniforms.

We made the rounds, checked out some beater 240sx's. A few nice ones. And watched a few groups of guys come and go. I've noticed a trend with these folks.. when they cruise around the parking lots they tend to drive a little fast past the crowds. Nothing break neck... but what disturbs me is they purposely turn off their headlights.

We grew bored of the lameness and decided to head out.

As we get within a block of the freeway, three Nissan 240sx's go crusing past us on our left heading for the freeway onramp going the opposite way we're heading. So I jump out of my lane and follow, my friend asks what we're doing... but when he saw the three Nissans he knew why. They took the long sweeping onramp sort of fast. But the G8 took it faster. Riding the 2nd Nissan up, glued to his rear.

Once we got onto the freeway, I simply pulled out from behind him and motored past. Letting him know I was game to play. The three started to play cat and mouse with me. Except in the world of stock 240sx's in comparison to the G8.. it was like playing Tiger and Pigmy Shrew.

One guy tried to punch it from a roll with me, his farty can was loud... but from a 70mph punch he fell back quickly and at 130mph we almost lost site of them on the freeway.

We coasted back down to sane speeds and let them catch up. They started to get off and we followed. Now the three Nissans had multiplied into five. The other two must of been behind us when we got on the freeway because we never saw them.

Now we're back on city streets and it's five of them vs one of us. Combined they had more power and torque. But they're not Planeteers and can't let their 240's combine to Captain Nissan Planet Racer dude... so I was relatively safe in one on one combat.

We followed them, toyed with them from here and there. One guy was swerving in and out of traffic needlessly. We fell back a bit, I wasn't about to get caught up in their shananigans and get popped for something stupid. If I'm going to get caught, I want it to be epicly stupid thank you very much.

We were pretty confident that all was well on our end till we heard the classic 'hisss possh' of a blow off valve in a red 240sx... Oh Noesss! Turboz!!!

The guy kept poppin it off at us like it was going to drive me away in fear. If anything it only made me curious as to what he had... KA-T? SR?... From the sound of the car I quickly ruled out RB... I know that sound. Infact, it had a bit of a higher pitch than a KA-T. Hmm.. maybe SR?

We tag along till we finally get lined up with them. Poor fellow had his girlfriend with him, I gave her the nod and the smile... along with the "How's it going?" line. She tried to act uninterested. But she totally wanted me... Yep...

Oh, yeah... so we're lined up and I figured he was going to go for it cause he kept inching up at the light. So I power braked the G8 up a bit... frigging light was forever long. Light goes green and he starts to pull away sorta faster than normal. I slip the brake off and plant the gas and the G8 comes out of the hole with zero drama... not because it's such a awesome car. It's because it's severly over weight and under powered.

By 60mph, he was wayyy back there. He finally catches up and his girlfriend is laughing. Yeah... totally loves me. Yep...

um.. yeah. Ok so then we follow them into a Jack in the Box and we talk with them. We get out and talk for a few minutes. They ask WTF my car is.

I told them it's a G6 GXP, automatic V6 with the sport package.

Even though the badges clearly say G8 GT... and it's clearly not a V6 by the sound it makes WOT. Kids... they'll believe anything... like Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny... or that Social Security will be there for them when they get old. Lies... all lies... but at least they're happy being ignorant.

The guy then confirms it's an SR, but refused to show me the motor. I asked what he had done to it and he tried to change the subject. I started to ramble off questions, part names and general stats about the SR20 from back when I had mine. They all seemed.. confused. How could a guy in a Pontiac know more about the cars they drove than they did? Ha!

They asked if I wanted to a real run with the SR'd car. I said sure, so we followed them over to a empty industrial street. The driver let his friend drive the car, cause apparently he's the best they have.

And we lined up.. he did a pathetic burn out on his street tires. And we lined up. The guy who was going to flag us was trying to stand between us but the way we were sitting there was less than 3ft of clearance between the cars. I was like "Wtf is this guy doing? He can get hit by one of us..." So i backed away and re-lined up about 10ft away.

I loaded up the trans, and he flagged us off. He didn't launch that well, infact he sucked. And we raped him fairly quickly. By 60mph it was over and he was lenghts behind. We came back and they asked for another run, he complained that he didn't get a good launch. I told him I'll give him one more run and that's it.

Once again, power braked it to the limits of adhesion out back and when the flagger dropped his hands the G8 came outta the hole like a raped ape and suprisingly he did well too. Infact we were even till about 20mph hit... then the 6.0L woke up (Vtak yo!) and we pulled on him 3-4 lengths by the time we hit 70ish and we were still pulling away at a very healthy rate.

Ah to be young again. I haven't been out screwing around in the car in... ages. Felt weird to be doing it... like I was the creepy old guy who hangs outside the school. Excpet I was the creepy old guy who hangs outside the school parking lot waiting for races.

Hate growing up... but the plus side is I keep getting cooler toys.

That's what I thought until I started reading it. Kept my attention the whole way through. Nice kills, and nice ride.

Nice kills man. Gotta love the kids who think they are fast. I wish we had even a single respectable 240 up here

No no... I still have the Truck. I use my truck for work... the G8 sits 5-6 days a week infront of my house. I've had it almost 6 months now, and I have less than 2000 miles on it.

In all honesty... it's a waste of money.

Re: G8 vs the world...

Well, its a good thing. Just j/k.

I love those G8s. Really nice looking and I would imagine they run pretty good. The auto rags love 'em, that's for sure.

Yeah, I know all about that waste of money crap. I guess my GMC fits that bill sort of. It does have 42k miles now though. I guess the Nova does too seeing as how I haven't raced any this year.

Re: G8 vs the world...

Nice! We only have one fast 240 out by me(over 800whp I'm sure you've seen it in magazines). Those cars are such a trend in the import world. They are interesting little cars though. Nice kills those g8's look nice.

Re: G8 vs the world...

Those 240sx's can be made into some wickedly fast cars when done up right. And for what they are, they handle decently well too.

I'm always leary of a turbo'd 240.. just never know what might be laying under that hood. All kinds of scary can be under there.

Re: G8 vs the world...

Man I felt like I picked up a small book. Good storys though. At least you got some people to bite. The closest I have gotten to a race is a guy in a SS cobalt who came flying around me and acted like wanted to race, but never did. Pitty...

And whats up the the term Hello Kitty?
