Rain X Removal

How do you remove RAIN X from your windshield. I can't see anything at night because of the smeear it makes! thanks.

RainEx is one of those things that the Nobel Prize should be awarded for!

If you see smudges - you haven't wiped it off enough! Didn't follow the directions......

Get two dry paper towels.
Make a pad of them about two folds one over the other.
Go out and rub the windshield hard until the smudging is gone.
Turn the paper towel pad often.

Do this in the sunlight where you can get in the car to see if you have been
successful.

You will be more than happy with RAINEX !
I use it on all my vehicles and on some house windows.

BTW - I don't sell it - I just love it.

I agree. Try washing your windsheild again. Then follow the exact directions on the bottle. When done right, the result should be crystal clear vision. Also, changing your wipers to Bosch would be a good idea.

Yes, rainx is the best stuff ever. I can remember several times of never turning on my wiper blades in the rain cause I could see fine and didn't even think about the wipers

I much prefer the Rain x that goes in the wiper fluid reservoir...Same great vision in the rain, no wiping! You might want to try that.

BTW - I RainEx all my windows, the headlights (keeps them cleaner - more light)
and my rearview mirrors. Even do my house windows on the windward side
where rain dribbles down.

yrs ago when I drove used RainX on my Big Truck (18 wheeler) made it easier to wash bugs off

It's just called RainX Winshield Washer Fluid...got it at Walmart.
They have anti-ice for winter (its kinda orange) and anti-bug in the summer (its green). It's only a couple of bucks and worth its weight in gold!

I had used Rain X on the inside and outside. After all it is a glass cleaner. Big mistake. I tried many products, including Acetone, and was just about to resign to having new windshields installed.

On my last trip to the cleaning product stash I saw the Glass Cook Top cleaner and the light went on in that vacuum between my ears. I thought it was worth a try and now I am glad I did.

The stuff worked with one application. The brand I used was Weiman Cook Top (tm). The residue left in any pits can be removed with a high pressure wash. As for the flakes that escape the buffing towel on the interior a vacuum will take care of those.

Be very careful washing any windows anywhere with a BASIC (Alkaline) washing
solution.

Alkaline solutions can pit glass if they stay on it very long or get concentrated.

Glass dissolves, albiet slowly, in solutions containing alkali Metals like sodium or
potassium hydroxide - basic - lye essentially.

Most kitchen and Tile cleaners are extremely Basic because Basic solutions dissolve
protein and fats which comprise most "dirt".

Doesn't take much glass to dissolve before the glass looks permanently hazy.

That is why Vinegar is often used as a glass cleaner.

Ammonia is basic - but it is also volatile - it evaporates and leaves the glass with
no residue of itself.

If you have to use a basic cleaning solution to get the glass clean, I'd advise
doing a final diluted white vinegar solution rinse to neutralise the basic cleaner,
then a water or ammonia final wash.

It is important!

As a proof of this, most nice glassware gets hazy when always washed in a
dishwasher. Dishwasher detergent is extremely alkaline (basic) - that is why
it feels slippery on your hands - it is converting the fat in your skin to soap.
It slowly etches the glassware and removes the polished surface of the glass
making it rough (can't see thru it).

While you guys are on the windshield subject.
My 95 metro I got -the previous owner operated the windshield wipers with the blade missing from the passenger side and left scratches.
Is their a way to buff those out ?

I seriously doubt it.

Scratches in the windshield are permanent and can't be "polished out."

Buy a windshield at a local "Pull-n-Save."
