Skyline or any better options?
Hey im looking to get another car been driving for a while so thinking something a bit faster than my 01 gmc sonoma lol
I was looking at the 90-92ish skyline gts-4 or gtst any opinions on these? is it worth it to get these? or should i just save up until i can afford a gtr of similar year. i heard that the gts-4 lacks torqe with the rb20dett (not to good @ this lingo lol) so it doesnt really get much of an advantage from the awd... throw any opinions and one thing dont sugest any CIVICS! i cant stand the cars lol |

Re: Skyline or any better options?
One of many great priveledges for being in Canada. I would know. I went to look at Skylines a year ago. There are quite a few companies that like to import them in for cheap, and sell them to make an additional 10K off the top. I would know because I talked to a few guys in Montreal when I went looking for one. Most are brought in for roughly 5-8K and sold for twice as much or more.
Besides that, don't waste your money on a car that wasn't manufactured here in the states. Matty once gave me some good pointers. 1. Buying a foreign car means you'll probably have to buy the foreign parts if something breaks. 2. Waiting time on parts plus cost can be more of a problem for owning such a car. 3. Some companies may have a few parts in stock, but they can charge you up the ass prices if they want as well. Just stick to cars manufactured here in the States/Canada. It's less of a headache to deal with in the long run. Although, I can understand your itch to buy something "rare" and not seen around here, plus most of the "good" cars are offered in the States. On top of that, Canadas smog tests are a pain in the ass to deal with for boosted vehicles. That's why I registered my Eclipse in NY in stead. As for suggestions on what to buy, there are quite a few, but it really depends on your budget. Nowadays, the "hot buy" would be the Cobalt SS/SC, Dodge SRT-4, Volkswagen R32, Ion Redline SC, or Solstice (are they offering the "boosted" version yet?). But if you are looking for something mid 90's, boosted, and relatively cheap (and if you can find yourself a vehicle with low miles to handle you're in luck) I would suggest vehicles such as: Mitsubishi VR4, Eclipse GST/GSX, Nissan 300zx, Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth TT. Then you have your options of swapping engines into vehicles. Although time consuming, the payoffs for a swap can be "oh-so-sweet". Such as the Nissan 240sx with either an RB motor swap, or an SR20 swap. Civics/Integras with a K20, F20C, H22, B18C1/5. Hyundai Tiburon with a 4G63T. RX-7 with a 350 crate motor. I could add a few more choices, but overall, I think you get the idea. Plan it out, figure your budget, and let us know. And Welcome to AF! |

Re: Skyline or any better options?
Thanks for the input as for now i have no firm budget but thinking around 6-8k right now. will always spend more on the car in the future
so that pretty much has to get me started.I have had my eyes on the skylines for a while although have not really heard much about them. That is a very valid point as for the cost of parts etc didnt really cross my mind. thankyou. |

The only factor that negates anything that I may have said in the past is if you've got what I call "FU Money". Like, you've got so much money you can piss it away on a car that may only see the street 4 days a year. That's FU Money. Sorta like Jay Leno, he's got FU Money. He has a warehouse full of rare and stupidly expensive cars. If you're financially set with FU Money. Then by all means... get a bitchin rare car. But since you're posting on a site like this and drive a GMC Sanoma from the early '90s I suspect you're a hard working lazy SOB like the rest of us. Get the more sensible choice as far as play cars go. You'll thank yourself in the long run when/if something breaks... or you want to upgrade it so you can beat the guy posting next to you.

Re: Skyline or any better options?
Screw the jap crap go domestic, but not crappy cobalt domestic, I'm talking a real domestic with a v8. If you want a fast import(for that price range) go eclipse or talon 1g awd, you'll have left over money for mods. But be prepared to replace the trans.

If you want a true answer you should search with experienced skyline owners or at least with people who have actually driven one. I wouldn't listen to anyone on this website. |
