Type 2 westfalia with a vanagon engine

Is it possible to put a more powerfull vanagon engine in a 72 westfalia camper.

i belive that the 2liter will fit in as the late type 2 had the 2 liter air cooled in the same as as the vanagon /t25 as they are called over here
