timing off
well i just replaced my lower intake manifold gasket and it went great even used the great thread on the tahoe page that goes into good detail but anyway engine started right up and runs great from what i can hear and feel in the engine but it thru a code P3145 which is timing. well what im askin is how do i time a 98 k1500 5.7L vin R
i cant find any timing marks on the crank but i havnt looked on the bottom of it yet but i dont see why they would be there, if anyone knows how to adjust it so i dont have to pay for the dealer to do it that would be great Last edited by chevymank15; 09-28-2008 at 09:12 AM. |

Re: timing off
When I replaced the distributor on my '97 Tahoe, I did find a mark on the harmonic balancer and a corresponding mark on the front cover. Make sure that the #1 cylinder is on the compression stroke and line these marks up. There should be a number stamped on the dist. (a 6 and an 8, if I remember, the dist. works on both V6 & V8). Line the rotor up on the number that applys to your engine. It is best to have the cam/crank sensor correlation checked. I haven't done this, but there is no code. Good luck!

Re: timing off
That code is cam /crank sensor correlation, which must be set using a scanner.

Re: timing off
I have dome it without reseting it,marking the distribitor before pulling it.

Re: timing off
That usually works, but as you see it is too late now.
