94 SE stalling need help

1994 Bonneville SE 3.8L (non-supercharged) 112000mi

First off, I'll start by saying I don't believe this is a mechanical problem. I believe it is electrical. I have searched a few threads and come up with possible TPS problems or EGR problems, but I wanted to put my issue out there and see how the responses compare to what I found. These are the symptoms:

When driving or sitting, occasionally the vehicle chime will rapidly ring 3 times and the speedometer will jump approximately 25-30MPH and return to the actual speed I am traveling, also the tach will jump approximately 2000-3000 RPM. Sometimes if I am not on the throttle while driving the car will die causing me to come to a stop, put it in park, and restart the engine. The SES light will sometimes stay on from startup to the next time I turn the car off, and sometimes it doesn't come on at all.

Today I replaced the spark plugs, cleaned the MAF, replaced the air filter, changed the trans fluid filter, and changed the oil.

While driving the car runs relatively strong, and still gets fairly decent mileage. My best guess would be TPS or VSS. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Three possibilities exist here, it could be the CKPS, ICM, or corroded battery terminals. The VSS, or TPS will not cause an engine that is running to stall! Remove the ICM and check for corrosion under the mount. Also check all grounds under the ICM and fender well!

Ok, well today I replaced the CKPS, and I cleaned the ICM, and each of the coilpacks. Then I took it for a test drive, and it is still doing the same thing. It does it more frequently at low speeds than at high speeds and it's very annoying.

There is a possibility that the PCM may be going belly up on you..

I agree with HotZ28, that the battery cables and engine ground straps need to be checked (since you replaced the other parts he mentioned). It could also be a corroded underhood fuse/relay center or PCM.
