RPM guage redline all the time

my rpm guage has been screwed up for 4 years and it sucks, i dont know what to do for it, and while driving it is tached out in the red. my car is a 1990 RS with a 5.0 liter. what can i do? I had a 1991 rs with the 3.1 and its rpm guage done this same thing. What could be the cause and what can i do to fix it??

You might get more replies if you put this in the problem diagnosis section. It is not really an interior type of thing.
