New toy

first i would like to say that i know this will be worthless without pics and they will get here soon, but i just picked up a 1986 crx si last sunday. had a bad tranny in it, 124 and r worked but were very loud. anyway got a tranny for it for 100 dollars and that one was perfect no grinds no leaks no bearing noise. witch in my experince is very very rare, i had to rebuild mine in my ED to get it to be like that.

but anyways back to the rex. this thing in mint, i am the second owner of the car. it is black with 122,000 miles on the chassie, the ew3 motor underwent a high compression build about 35000 miles ago and is very strong for what it is. all origanal paint, hood is oxidized but everything else is dam near perfect, has a full koni suspension with ebiach lowering springs in the rear, i dont know what brand torsion bars are in fron but they are upgraded also, there are 3 sway bars on the dam thing 2 in front and one in back.

The best feature of the car is the 5000$ leather interior that was put in it, everything is done in leather, and i mean everything, they guy went with a red and black colour scheeme and looks very clean, this was all done in the early to mid 90s and leather is still in great shape. little wear and tear here and there but thats to be expected. came with 2 recaro racing seats and momo stearing wheel. this guy spared no expense it seems, everypart is brand name, also has a pacesetter catback and dcsport headers.

i got a redicoulous deal on this car, i picked it up for 900 american dollars, tranny was 100, title was around 75 as tabs and plates were due as i didnt want to keep the vanity plate witch read blkmajk, yes i know there will be pics up here soon just got to pick up the camera and wait for some better daylight, Paul

Re: New toy

yeah im kind of torn about weather or not to try to flip it or keep it for a while, i need to get a winter car soon or a motor for my civic as i cooked the rings again at the track, not sure if i want to rebuild again or just get a motor to make the car move for now and drive that in the winter. if i could find a good running d series i would have all winter to rebuild the zc mini me...again.

i would really like to keep this car for a while as its in such good shape, but then again i like having money and a faster civic. either way if i drive one of my hondas in the winter it will not be fun as they all have full suspension, and cant be aligned properly without adjustable Ball joints or making some holes biger to get the adjustment.and the rex is in such good shape it would be a shame to drive it on the salted minnesota streets.

the rex has only seen about 5 winters of use i was told and saw very limited use at that. it did come on blizaaks though. ah decisions decisions. thanks Paul

Re: New toy

damn dude... I officially hate you. I'm going to go have a good cry.

By the way, if you want to modify your new CRX, google KakaBox or Hydra... and add some terms, like CRX or Honda to the search...

KaKaBox was the actual build, Hydra was the codename for the engine... it's an EW/EV block w/ the D16A1 head, which has the same bolt pattern as the ZC head, and the ZC head could be used, as well.

IIRC, it's pretty much bolt on, as you can use integra head gaskets on the EW/EV motors.

Re: New toy

I just like the stock CRX's... but, I wouldn't mind a B16 1st gen... not convertible tho... targa, maybe.

Something about aftermarket convertible kits with soft tops just piss me off... if it was a Homebrew convertible, that still had the OEM top as a hardtop, that would be sweet.

I'd still prefer targa tho... something about it just makes me wanna giggle.

Re: New toy

Yeah, still don't really like convertible conversions... the car wasn't made to be a Convertible... and that's alot of weight addition... with extra bracing, and the motors and frame for the top, plus the fabric, locks, pins, new windshield upper frame brace... etc..

I think about things alot differently than most, I guess.. it looks cool, sure, but it's just not right to me.

Now, that turbo B16... that's pretty kick ass... I never did like the complete space constraint of the chassis tho... but I guess if you want a street car that can be made to weigh in under 1400 lbs, you really have to deal with little things like that.

I would love to have another 1st gen... even my 62 HP stock 86 CRX was kickass... it was faster than my B2/Si Sedan.

Re: New toy

Don't do the search, just go to www.redpepperracing.com and go to the projects page, there is an index for the Kakabox build. Even if you don't have a 1g, its a really good build to look at and get ideas.

Christ, some of the 1gs actually came out with to be a convertible, the Straman CRX. There is a nice group of them out in So Cal. I'm not much for convertibles either though, it does look a lot like a Metro convertible

Re: New toy

Yeah, not a fan...

I love the 1g's tho.. even the sedans... still don't really like the hatches.

I don't like Civic hatches all the way up to '92... and then some of the shit people do with them makes them not so appealing.

Re: New toy

I like the ED hatch the most. I like the EG hatch, mostly because I love the damn tailgate they have. The 3g have grown on me some, really depends if and what all is done to it.

Re: New toy

The only hatches I really like are the EG's... not sure what specifically about them, I don't think it's actually one specific thing... I just don't really like the ED/EF hatch, I don't like the 71-87's either.

Honestly, I think the 3rd gen hatch turned into the ED wagon.... but then again, the 3rd gen wagon was pretty boxy too.
