89 K1500 Stalls in reverse
89 K1500 w/350V8, 140K. The last few months the truck has stalled pretty regularly when I put it into reverse from park and am turning while backing up. Very annoying. If I gun the engine during the procedure I can usually keep it from stalling. I do not have this problem going from park to drive. I can reproduce the problem in the driveway by putting the transmission in reverse. It holds idle until I start turning the wheel. The idle in park is set pretty high. Truck runs pretty well otherwise. It has a new or newer: fuel pump, air filter, plugs, wires, IAC valve, ground wire. My next checks will probably be fuel pressure regulator (Haynes says to replace the whole fuel metering cover but I can't find one, just the diaphragms) distributor cap, and/or TPS sensor, but I am just guessing at this point...

Re: 89 K1500 Stalls in reverse
a simple bad pvc valve will make it stall.as for the fuel regulator pull the vacumn line off it if gas comes out of the vacumn hole replace it as the regulator is bad. if i remember right a bad pvc valve will stall a motor in reverse before it starts to stall it in forward gear.make sure the tps is set in the notch, it fits in a notch on the throttle body.

Re: 89 K1500 Stalls in reverse
I installed a new PCV valve today. I also tried to insulate the gas lines as I wondered if heat was causing fuel to boil off in the lines (given that this only happens when the truck is warmed up and is worse on hot days). Has anyone else had to insulate their fuel lines like this? The lines on this truck appear to be aftermarket flex lines with the braided stainless covers vs. steel lines.
