daytime running lights died...2005
2005 Suburban LT.
Just brought my '05 Sub from Las Vegas to NorCal (Rocklin). The Kalifornia Gestapo says it must pass a brake/light inspection along with everything else. Brakes passed fine, but the tech says the DRLs won't work. They were fine as far as I remember....usually see them on the garage door when I pull up. He's checking them in the shop, so I told him to check them while outside so the sensor will work properly. I don't know why Kalifornia would give a rat's azz about DRLs since most cars don't even have them or use them, but they have me by the balls. On a 2005, what am I looking for> Tech said he checked the fuse and the power to the lights. I can't remember exactly what he said because I was so damm mad after having to pay an extra $60 for registration because my Sub has a salvage title (as if they should get money out of it). I have driven this truck for almost 3 years with no issues related to these lights or anything out of ordinary repairs for a 111,xxx mile vehicle. In fact, it is a great Sub and has served my family well....until this Kalifornia BS. Any suggestions???

Re: daytime running lights died...2005
drl fuse good?drl relay good?2 power feeds to relay?really need a scan tool with bi-directional controls to test this.could use a 3 amp fused jumper and jump pins 30 and 87 and see if you have lights....if both power feeds good to relay and lights light when jumped the relay bad or the control side problem.

Re: daytime running lights died...2005
I went to the shop this morning to talk to them about the Sub and they had the lights "fixed"....didn't say what the problem had been. I think it was being inside and the sensor just wouldn't let them turn on.
BUUUUUUUTTTTTT.....as I drove the Yukon over I noticed the radio and dash lights were out. Blown fuse I'm sure because it happened twice before about 1-2 weeks ago when UHaul hooked up a small trailer with the 4 pin adapter to the 7 pin receptacle on the truck. Fuse blew when the trailer was connected, then one more time, but Uhaul "fixed" the wiring and it was ok for the trip and sinmce -- until this morning. I'll replace the fuse again, but something must be wrong. There's no trailer to mess with it, so what might6 it be?

Re: daytime running lights died...2005
the DRL comes on when in drive. in/out of a enclosure would not effect this.
the light sensor gets to loose the ability to see LIGHT ! this means the headlights will come on in / on a sunny day. the fuses blowing with the trailer hook up is most likely the trailer wiring. chaffed/damaged wires. now if the circuit still blows after this event of trailer use the wires may have melted down. the fuses were the correct amps I hope...... |
