security theft system problems

I had my car stolen about 7 years ago and I had my lock tumble. I am not sure exactly what that means I just know they change the keys out and so forth. Well this year my security theft system will not allow us to drive the car. It does not accept my key it kicks on and stop us from cranking the car. It has been in the shop 8 times. It run splendid when we can crank it. It is upsetting because of this fact. I would give up if it was not running well when you crank it. The shop we have it at has not found the problem. I was wondering had anyone else had this problem and maybe had a suggesting. I would deeply appreciate your input. Please help Thank you Chevycathy40

Re: security theft system problems

There is a lot of things incorporated into the V.A.T.S. / Passlock/ on these cars. The PCM, BCM, Ignition key tumbler, Gauge cluster is all apart of the system. If any one thing has been changed or altered, there is a re-learn procedure which the car needs to under go.

1) Does the steering wheel unlock and allow you to try and crank over the car or does it completely not allow your to turn the key at all?
a) Does the Security light come on and stay lit when it shuts off if it allows you to crank?
2) If it allows you to crank the car over and it runs, then dies, there is a passlock relearn procedure that I can post up for you.

Re: security theft system problems

thank you for your reply. It runs fine when the security theft light is off, but it will only do this for maybe at best a day or two then the light comes back on and the ignition will not turn over and crank. It sounds as if it will but it won't allow us to crank the car. It acts as if we are stealing our own car. I am thinking it might have to do with the key and ignition system, and the fact my locks have been tumbled, but the dealer ship that is working on it has had since march and we have received it back 8 times unfixed. I would feel better about it not getting fixed if the car had just died, but when that light is off it run fine as it always has. I hope to find a answer. They are ordering a new part for my car to try they have already replace the pmc and theft system so it has to be something else it the steering column. I appreciate any input anyone has thanks so much. chevycathy40

Re: security theft system problems

you could wire a resistor into your vats wire (yellow to orange black coming from your ignition) you would have to measure the resistance difference from the key side to the black wire, and duplicate that resistance within 5% from the bcm side of the yellow to orange.

Re: security theft system problems

hum, I don't know exactly if I'm thinking about the same thing has you but if it's like my car, the anti-start simply stopped working...

So for a while all I did was use the kill-switch that died on me and that I had 2 replace, no big deal

But if the dealership didnt figure it out yet....then I'm guessing it's not something has simple has that.....lol

Re: security theft system problems

This may be going out on a limb here, but If you know someone with a TECH 2 or HPTuners. They can disable the VATS system. But you risk having your car stolen real easy as they could just hot start it.
