1994 Grand Prix Transmission Help!

Hello, I am new to this forum, but I have been looking at some threads, and I think that you all could help me, I am having a real problem with my transmission...

My first problem started when I changed my breaks, I had just changed the back breaks, and I decided that I would go for a test drive to see how they were working... I pressed on the breaks, and not super hard, but when I did that my transmission popped out of 3rd gear and into neutral and would not go back down to 1st after the stop... Some background on the veichle... It is a 1994 Grand Prix SE Coupe Automatic, It has a 3.1L V6. I have done everything that is needed maintaince wise, but I read on a forum that I was not supposed to do a transmission flush to the veichle, becuase it had over 150k on it or something like that.... I bought it with 160k on it, and it now has 165k miles. Here is a better explination of the problem... When you come out of reverse, and put the car into Drive, it works fine, but as soon as you stop, the car will not downshift back into 1st gear, (neither 2nd, or 3rd) it just gets stuck in 4th. In order to get the car out of Neutral, I have to move my shifter knob into 1 in order to start moving, and then i have to shift into 2 and then finally i can go into drive, i can't move straight from 1st to D or I get the same neutral thing again... I have been told that it might be a block of build up in the transmission, but since people have said not to flush it, I don't know what to do... Also, the transmission sometimes does downshift, but if I hit the breaks to make a suddon stop, it goes into neutral again.... If anyone has had the same problem, or can help me out, Please I really need your help.

When you are in reverse, do your backup lights come on?

No, they don't, but they haven't since I purchased the car, so I was assuming that it was just the bulbs or something, It is pretty late right now, so tomorrow, I will check the bulbs and then run a volt meter to them while someone puts the car in reverse with the parking break on of course, also I was reading, and the car does start in neutral every time... But yeah, the lights don't turn on, so i will check that out and get back to you...

I checked today, and it is definitively a negative, the backup lights DON'T work, they are getting no voltage in reverse...
