so its been a while for me since ive dug into this stuff but i was wondering if this d block are set up the same as our older 4th gen block like motor mount spots and such and if i just have to reuse the mounts on my current pork box of a motor.

Re: 92-95 zc sohc swap

exactly.

Just reuse your mounts, specifically, the front engine mount, (driver's side, at the cam/crank pulley).

The rest are still the same, except the balancer mount, or stabilizer mount, which really isn't necessary, from what I've been told by several people, but can still be used.

Other than that, it's straightforward, and will still bolt to your stock tranny.

Re: 92-95 zc sohc swap

thats pretty straightforward. jsut swapping hardwear mostly then. anyone have any recomendations as to what to do when i get the motor i.e. timing belt plugs ect ect. i think you get the point to insure a less costly road of failing parts.

Re: 92-95 zc sohc swap

full tune up, if you're not sure about the integrity of the engine... you could go so far as to check the bearings and such, but if you're going to do that, you might as well just rebuild it.

Change tbelt, water pump, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil, etc... FULL tuneup... something you should do every time you buy an engine and you're not sure about how it was treated/maintained.

You could get away with not replacing the timing belt, if you inspect it well, but they're so cheap, that it's not worth risking your engine.

You'll definitely want to run a compression test, if possible... it's not that hard to do tho, and you can do it somewhat well with a hi-torque drill on the crank shaft.

Re: 92-95 zc sohc swap

this is true. well ill probably collect part when the motor comes in that way it would be cheaper to do. i dont do to much in the way of heavy mechanic work like head gaskets and timing belts jsut because what i already know i thought myself and i have dared risk those.
