Oxygen sensor ?????
Hello all.
Recently I had a friend at work check my 1999 Venture with his OBDII scanner, because the check engine light was on and he came up with O2 sensor heater, bank#1- sensor #2. Does anyone know exactly where this is located on this engine? It is a 3.4 liter motor. He went ahead and erased it but it came back again and it is doing the same things it did before, stalling out after pulling in from driving for a while. I always assumed most cars had only 1- O2 sensor. I guess I assumed wrong. Thanks for any help you can give me. Toni. Also, does anyone know about the airbag warning lights. Mine keeps coming on and then back off again from time to time. I think I have to go to a dealer to have this checked because my local mechanic said he can't read these codes as he don't have the proper scanner. While this is "on", I assume I don't have any protection??? |

Re: Oxygen sensor ?????
Thanks. We ended up at out local mechanics to have the struts replaced and an alignment and he showed me where it is. Not too bad of a spot really. To add insult to injury, he tells me now that I need to have the left rear wheel hub replaced in order to get the ABS light back out. Those things aren't real cheap as I recall. I just did the front left one last May and luckily that was still under warranty as he had to replace that again. I guess I should have bought the lifetime one, but they are twice the $$$$. It never ends I guess. I priced the sensor, $71.00 at the local NAPA, not too bad and I think I'll just do it myself," after it cools off".
I like this van but, it seems it always has some ongoing problem. You just get one thing repaired and its on to something else. Like the Airbag light coming off and on. The last time it did that, we had to have the dealer check it and we had to buy a seat belt tensioner to the tune of $135.00 as I recall. I hesitate to leave the light on as it is a safety concern. The thing is it will go back out just as quick and will stay off for a time and then boom its back on again. Too many touchy sensors in my estimation. Then there's the drivers side window. When you roll it up, you have to pull up on it to get it to roll up all way. I need to take the inner cover off and check this out, but I can't spend my whole life doing repairs on this blasted thing, there are more important things to do...... |

Re: Oxygen sensor ?????
Hi Toni. You just answered your question on the airbag light. It is probably the seat belt tensioner. I have been told that if you make sure the belt is fully retracted after you get out of the van it will usually work OK. If the light is on, the airbags will not deploy. As for your window you can liberally apply a silicone spray to both the front and rear window seals without removing the panel. That will take care of the window problem. Good Luck.

Thanks dewaynep, I'll definitely give those 2 suggestions a try, it will save me some time. I don't really mean to complain, it gets frustrating sometimes is all. Toni.

Re: Oxygen sensor ?????
I've had the intermittent air bag light come on as well in my 2000 Venture. I've found that the wiring connectors beneath the seats which sense the seat belt connection sometimes do not make good contact, and simply repositioning them clears the problem. Also, silocone spray on the door window guides allows the windows to easily move up and down. Do this soon so you don't damage the window motors.

Re: Oxygen sensor ?????
OK, I did spray the window rubbers with silicone and it did help, thanks. The thing with the airbag light, it only comes on in the afternoon. which makes me think its heat related. I'll definitely check the plugs under the seat.Hopefully I can get the O2 sensor changed this weekend.
I won't set the airbags off when I'm fooling around with the wiring will I?? I'll check in again over the weekend, Happy Labor Day. don't forget to take some rest time out. Toni. |
