Engine knocking/main bearing damage
94 s-10 blazer tahoe LT, 175k miles
little over a month ago i took the car on a two hour trip and back and noticed i was getting some rough engine knocking when i was idling and in low rpm. when i'm idling or at low rpm my oil pressure gauge drops to the bottom and i get my check gauges light, but when i am moving at a steady speed it goes back up a little and the light goes off. i'm positive its that the main bearings are going bad and i'm just curious to know what will end up happening if i don't get it fixed. |

Re: Engine knocking/main bearing damage
One or more of the bearings will probably spin in it's housing due to heat and ruin the shaft and/or housing bore. If it gets bad enough the engine will stop.
If possible you can catch it before this happens and patch with thick oil and a high volume oil pump. I'm not sure if it is indeed the mains , but if it is it's probably too late. It may also be a cheaper fix right now than if you let it go to destuction. I always had much better luck rebuilding an engine that was just well worn out than one that was rebuild for a mechanical failure. It brings in many other problems during rebuild when let go to destruction. |

Re: Engine knocking/main bearing damage
Check the price on a reman and remans are now cheaper than rebuilding. The reman has a better warranty,Jasper has a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty.A rebuilt engine has a one or two year warranty. For example,a stock 1988 to 1995 350 goes for least fifteen hundred dollars and a Jasper reman is twelve hundred.Problem with rebuilding it,the crankshaft is probally junk and is out of specs to get machined.
