Hi all!
The Sultan's FX is one of my earlier mods, together with the equally ambitious 288GTO evoII. both have been duly declared failures, due to my naive thoughts & under-estimation of some very complex issues that arised during the body-chassis fitment. i was trying to do an all opening car concept... nevertheless, i managed to salvage the important parts from the 1st failure attempt & carry it over to this 2nd try. you can call me stubborn, i just couldn't let it go & admit defeat! so now i present to you my 2nd attempt on this elusive Sultans' prize, but this time i forgo the all the openings except the engine boot...better luck this time!? ![]() ![]() ![]() the above pictures was taken from the 1st attempt, which looked ok initially. but when i started to fit the chassis...all hell breaks loose! my mistake was i DID NOT seperate the body mod from the chassis mod clearly. now how do i put it? simply, all body panels (visible) should be constructed on the body itself & not on the chassis. it's much easier to fit the 2 parts this way (like a OOP kit style), also...the parts fit / accuracy will be better, mistakes can be cover up easily. next is this ferrari openings are one hell of a complex issue as compared to the older ferraris. in the real car, you'll find that the whole front section tilts up as bonnet, not only a bonnet flat piece. now this has robbed me all the vital areas where the door hinges are supposed to be constructed. the next killer is the rear boot, again it tilts up to nearly half of the whole rear section. that leaves me with alot of exposed engine bulk areas to conceal. moreover, with the doors opening, i can't construct a proper hinging for the rear bonnet with nothing solid to hinge upon. the roof area being cut out, is too weak without the doors support. hence...a total failure!

Re: 1/24 The building of the Ferrari Sultan FX (2nd attempt)
There are plenty of solutions to your problems, however a lot of work will be needed.
PS: Did you prime those modified 250's? |

Re: 1/24 The building of the Ferrari Sultan FX (2nd attempt)
ok, here's the 2nd attempt's update...
![]() as you can see...those prominent features on the FX are being carried forward to a new body...this time round i used a revell 512TR shell for the cut. the doors are untouched as i'm gonna do it shut, so i heavily putty the original doors for shaping & ditch the cut-out ones... as you've noticed, i've revamp the whole idea into a body only & a chassis only affair...a mistake i never anticipated the 1st time round. the original front is left intact so as to aid the strength of the overall body til i complete the rear portion, i need accuracy here. also, because the tamiya engine bay is much much better looking than the revell's...i cut the rear end from the tamiya chassis & used it in this new body shell...

that's the great thing about it; you can never lose if you never stop!
I'm working on a similar project. The trick is, build supports on the chassis that the body panel can rest on. Keep it up, and work on your little honda too! Love that thing! opcorn:

Re: 1/24 The building of the Ferrari Sultan FX (2nd attempt)
Hi all.
i'm writing this to terminate this thread on the FX, i have failed in my building, yet again. i wanna apologise to all those following this build that i've wasted your time & giving out false hope that i can really do it...for that i offer my deepest apology. this FX together with the 288 evo were part of my very very first plunge into such complex mods. though i've learned quite alot about how to avoid pitfalls as time goes by, i just can't salvage these 2 ferraris which were mod based on the initial assumptions which was wrong. the good thing is, the rest of the mods i'm currently doing are safe, all based on this newfound rule...that means i won't have the same fitting problems for the rest of my ferraris to worry about. thankx again for your support & encouragement all along...i promised nothing will be wasted here, now that i've learned my lesson(s). i'll redo these 2 super complex ferraris again when i get more wiser & skilled...i will, i will be back! good luck on your build(s)!
