97' 328is- can i use 17x8 whls w/o mod?

Hello,
I have a 97' 328is with the stock 225/50-16 tires and wheels.
Can I upgrade to a rim rim size of 17x8 without modifications?
Thanks,
Russ

Your tach shows engine speed - has nothing to do with wheels and tires. Your speedometer will be off unless you mount tires with the same circumference (i.e. lower profile) on the bigger wheels. A wheel/tire dealer should be able to help with this.

Thanks. I spoke to a BMW service tech today. He said changing to a taller tire will not give me the same handling, even with the sport package. I can go wide without effect. Can anybodyconfirm this?

A 17 inch tire will raise the car 1/2 inch... but the HR suspension kit... which is very nice too will lower the car back down.... don't worry about the handeling you'll hardly notice it.

Just a new set of springs and struts... There are many different combonations to get H&R springs, Billenstien Struts are the best combo.. or most popular... many other manufacturers make the stuff to. Check out www.bavauto.com Springs and struts can run 700-800. Installation isn't that hard from what I've heard. Get the 17" rims then later get the suspension...
