Recently, I've been made to put my car key into the Shift Lock in order to get it to shift out of Park. It happens whenever I put the darn thing into Park, whether I've been driving, or I just start up the car.
I'm driving a 2001 Daewoo Leganza. It's still got the warranty on it, but I wanted to know what was wrong with it so I don't get shafted when I take it in. Has anyone else had this problem? |

Same problem must put in Neutral and use key to unlock before starting. How to disengage this system?

So you might want to see if you don't have brake lights and if not, go buy the brake light switch. It make life a whole lot easier.... |

Re: Gear Shift
I've had this problem twice with my Daewoo Nubira 2000. The Daewoo brakelight switch is very cheaply made. I suggest buying two and keeping one in the glove compartment for next time. The place I ordered it from said they couldn't keep them in stock, and I could see why after I recieved it.
Be careful before the part is replaced. You have no brakelights! Watch your back, no one can tell when you are slowing down! I actually purchased a sturdier brand that won't fit, hoping to find someone who would make it fit. No luck, yet. A regular garage won't tinker around with unmatching parts. |

Where exactly is the breaklight switch located in the 2001 Leganza?
I have both those problems, and I would like to fix it myself. Thank you. |

just follow the brake pedal up and there will be something that looks like a switch. that is it, remove it gently and replace it with the new one.
Done!

Hello,
This site and thread has been very helpful! I have had the problem with the shift lock for a while, and just today my brake lights stopped working. The regular lights work, the bulbs are fine as are all of the fuses...but after reading this thread I now know what the problem is. Does anyone know where I can find this part? I haven't had luck in the past with getting parts for Daewoo. Any help would be appreciated! PS-I am in Tampa Florida, but if there is somewhere online that would be great too. Thanks! Jeremy |

Re: Gear Shift
You can call Daewoo at 1-877-362-1234 and find out where the nearest dealer is to you. I know there is one in Orlando...maybe they will mail it to you.

Brake light switch installation
Folks,
I have purchased a brake light switch after reading the articles on the forum and noticing that the switch might be the solution to the "not able to sshift out of park" problem on my 2000 leganza. It is longitudinal, black and has a plunger. 4 copper leads at one end. I cannot find where to putit in after looking in the brake pedal area (at the upper extremity of the foot pedal). Can people who have done it provide detailed instructions? I notice its very difficult to lie down (even withsteerring wheel fully up and seat pushed back) and work in that area. I cannot raisemy wehicle like a mechanic. any tips? mahesh [email protected] |

Re: Gear Shift
had same problem with my 2000 Leganza. Brake light switch fixed problem. Can be purchased thru Auto Zone either online or at store. Either way takes about 2 days to recieve. wires just plug back into piece and unit needs about 1/2 turn to lock into position on bracket on brake pedal

Re: Gear Shift
After Reading Your Solutins I Located The Brake Switch Next To The Brake Pedal (very Dificult To Get To It) I Follow The Advice Of Trace The Cables And Found They Were Toching A Metal Frame, Moved Away From The Metal, Mover The Switch Arround Back And Fowred Acople Of Times And Bingo It Work, No Parts To Replace And No Trips To The Mecanic. Be Patient It Is Hard To Get To The Brake Pedal .
