01 cherokee a/c compresser clutch replacement
My 2001 cherokee has been noisy lately.I ran the jeep today and the noise wasn't as bad,but I could smell burning plastic, when I shut it off the a/c clutch was smoking.I ordered a clutch assembly and need to know if I can change it myself or if any special tools are required? The a/c is working fine otherwise.

Re: 01 cherokee a/c compresser clutch replacement
Not sure, I know the compressors on the fords are fairly simple and require a small set of snap-ring pliers. If you take the clutch off, be aware of the spacer washers, these are important to set the proper space between the clutch and the pulley when disengaged. More than likely you can do it right on the vehicle if its accessable. Otherwise you'll have to evac the system, then recharge once you have the compressor installed.
