97 Supreme - Hornk Honking On Own!

1997 Cutlass Supreme Sedan

Ok guys I really hope someone can help me with this because I am loosing sleep literally over this problem.

My cutlass will start honking at about 4am or so during the night and I have to put clothes on run downstairs just to tap the horn to make it quit. I really do not have any idea what could be causing this. It has done it to me maybe 2-3 times while driving, at night time its doing it every night now.

Does anyone know what is going on with my cutlass?

If not how can I disable the horn or rig it up to a switch?

Guess until someone else has an answer. I would pull a wire off the horn itself and tape it up so it doesn't short against anything.

Various places. Maybe have someone blow the horn while you look? Check engine compartment also.

Re: 97 Supreme - Hornk Honking On Own!

cutsless, I have a 92 Cutlass Supreme that did the same thing, twice years apart. I don't know what the steering wheel looks like on a 97.

On my 1992 I took the cover off the steering- 2 screws in the back and found that they used foam that deterorated allowing the metal for the horn to make contact and blow the horn. It did it while the car was parked at all different times.

To fix I took off all the old foam and used weather stripping foam with sticky tape on one side that you use on windows and doors in your house, it comes in different thicknesses. Cut it with a razor blade to size.
On the 92 there is horn buttons on each side and in the middle of the wheel, the problems were on the side buttons. Just did it this summer again.
