This is my first post, so if I miss something, let me know. I just purchased an 89 park avenue, and shortly thereafter, the automatic climate control panel went dead. The bulb is still getting power, so it has lights, but there is no readout, and all of the buttons are dead. I have checked the fuse box, and only found one bad fuse, which I replaced. It has nothing to do with this problem, and I haven't been able to determine what it does. Everything else seems to work. I have several questions. Is there more than one fuse box on this car? I checked the ones on the dash, behind the panel near the steering wheel. Is there a way to check the climate control box, to see if it's working correctly, before I try replacing it? I have a multimeter, and I am familiar with board level diagnostics. Any ideas are appreciated!
Oh, one more thing. Does anyone know where I could get a good book for working on this vehicle? The only one I can seem to find, is a general book for Buicks, covering 75-90, which I don't expect to be very helpful. Thanks for your help. |

Re: 89 park avenue automatic climate control dead
not really sure if this will help, but the first time i put in my car cd player, i didnt ground it right and somehow it played but after a while my horn, cd player and climate control stopped working. well the lights was still on the climate control but the temp was way off and i couldnt control anything. i fixed the ground problem and it worked. did you recently install anything electrical in your car? btw i got a 88PA

Re: 89 park avenue automatic climate control dead
Yes, I replaced the factory radio a week ago, but I bought a factory wiring harness for the radio. I guess I can check, and make sure my soldering job didn't come loose, but it should be ok. I'll check on it. It's at least a starting place.

Oh, I forgot to add. My radio is still working. I'll also check the horn, but I don't expect a problem with it. I don't think it's the same problem, because the radio still works.

Ok, I have some more information. Yes, the horn still works, as well. I ordered a new climate control module part for the dash from a salvage yard, and I get exactly the same result, so it's not that part. Are there any more fuses that this could be? I'm really scratching my head on this one. The A/C is very annoying to not work, but I will need my defroster or heater eventually. Thanks.

I finally figured this problem out. It was a bad fuse. I'm not sure why I didn't see it when i tested, but it was bad.
