cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
The '91 I'm picking up sunday has no tachometer, which bothers me... I've found some clusters on ebay (I know it must be 90-91) with the tach and the connectors appear the same
what I'm asking is if I get a cluster with a tach, will i be able to plug it in and have it work without additional wiring? |

Re: cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
Yes it works. the car has a tach output regardless.

Re: cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
Just make sure its the right year and its plug n' play. Sedans are a great source for clusters with tachs, and can be had for a lot cheaper sometimes.

Re: cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
frodo, what year are you looking for? I have a 88-89 w/ a tach, and the 6.8k redline (I think that's it... stock for a LX)
I'm actually running a HF cluster in my car now, which is funny, b/c all my friends think I'm redlining my car @ 5k. |

Re: cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
90-91. I almost couldnt care where the redline is. As long as itll read up to like 8.

Re: cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
I'm pretty sure that all tachs from 88-91 read up to 8k or 8.5k

Re: cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
7200 rpm is where your rev-limiter kicks in. Common spot on most USDM engines. My b18a1 kicks in right there as well.

Re: cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
Yep, that is what I had before the b18. Don't know what the redline actually is, i can go look at my Si tach to tell you that, but I'm lazy, lol.
Even knowing what the redline is for it, the d15 looses power way before the redline anyways.

Re: cluster with tach work in non-tach car?
orange is 6k, redline is 6500. it loses all power due to valve float and lack of timing at about 5.5k and starts degrading at around 5k
