Re: 94 Integra Seats in EF???
i know i can drill new holes for the front ones.
Technically, no, you can't... if you wanted to do it right, you'd either fix/swap the rails so they'd fit in the stock locations, or you'd fab new rails that fit in the stock locations... drilling new holes is both unsafe and illegal. Basically, what you'd be doing is defeating a stock safety feature in your vehicle originally designed to prevent your seats from becoming a projectile in a front end collision... yes, those stock bolt locations are reinforced for this purpose... By defeating that safety measure, you're essentially allowing yourself to put others in danger, including those who would unknowingly ride with you in your vehicle... not cool. If you're going to do it, do it right. |

Re: 94 Integra Seats in EF???
You're right... it doesn't move... until you hit something at 40+... putting nuts under the car makes it so the seat will sit still... but those nuts can rip through, since you're putting bolts into/through SHEETMETAL.. rather than the REINFORCED AREA that was actually meant for that specific purpose.
It's illegal because you're defeating a standard safety feature, which makes your vehicle officially unsafe for use on public highways... this isn't a state thing, it's federal, since the Federal Highway Commission works with car manufacturers to help develop new safety features, then put them into use and enforce their use. Just because you've done it before doesn't make it legal... I've street raced for thousands of dollars through-out my career... it's still illegal, and had I been caught, I'd have lost my license, just the same. (Actually did happen, hence why I don't do it anymore.) |

Re: 94 Integra Seats in EF???
And P.S.
Guess what excuse I DIDN'T give the judge when he asked why I was doing 104 in a 25mph area? "Yes, well, your honor... I was speeding, and racing, simply.. because, well, I've done it before, so I thought it was O.K..." He'd have thrown me into jail without hesitation until something more harsh could have been figured out... |

Re: 94 Integra Seats in EF???
damn, i never thought of it that way.
the only reason i drilled new holes was because i couldnt find any brackets for my car. i drive an 89 civic hb with tenzo r seats. i looked everywhere for brackets and didnt find any on the internet and i dont feel like spending 200+ on some custom made brackets. if u can find a place where i can get some let me know so i wont have to put people in danger. |

Re: 94 Integra Seats in EF???
Most seat swaps you can make work, and still be safe. Usually involves switching the whole bottom pan on the seat(not the cushion part, but everything else under it pretty much)
I actually need to go and redo my seat mount because I don't full trust my welding and the welder I was using. I have a Corbeau Seat in mine and just like you, I didn't want to spend the money for custom brackets. Luckily when I bought my metal racing seat it came with Momo L brackets, so I used those along with welding in some angle iron across the reinforced areas. I will admit, there are better ways of doing it, but with the tools I had at the time, that was the easiest and best way of doing it. I'm actually planning on using a seat loop that is on my spare roll cage when I install the cage, so no worries there for me.

Re: 94 Integra Seats in EF???
use grade 8 bolts... and some 3mm thick steel. bolt your stock brackets to the floor, center your seat on them, and cut pieces of steel that will go from the bolt holes on the seats to the bolt holes on the stock rails...
Step by step for you: Unbolt your stock rails from your stock seats. Bolt them back onto the floor. Unbolt the Integra rails from the Integra seats... throw them away. (Not literally... but set them aside.) Center the Integra seats on the stock rails Measure with something from the bolt holes on the rails (where they came off the seat.) to the holes on the bottom of the seat pan. Cut some 1/8 thick, 1-2" wide pieces of steel at 1" longer than you needed it, round off the square edges. Bolt them to the rails, using grade 8 hardware, then to the seat, using stock seat mount bolts. That's as good of an explanation as you're getting from me, this is how I usually do it, and it still passes DOT inspection. |

Re: 94 Integra Seats in EF???
By the way, I didn't mean to sound like a dick up there, but I don't like the idea of someone endangering the lives of other people just because they wanted different seats... and you seemed like you didn't know.
Plus, when I had my Mazda Truck, I put Eclipse seats in it the same way.... so I'm guilty of it too. |
