Well i stil lhave not found the damn problem with this 95 Lumina... For anyone who has not read any of my posts here is the problem.... Car runs good about 60% of the time, some times while driveing it feels like the fuel is being turned off and on, and some times stalls, and sometimes wont re start for a while, or just keep stalling. Checked the whole fuel system with pressure tester, and its all fine and dandy...
Well any way, for those who have ben tryin to help. I just got back from autozone, i had them test the Ignition Control Module, it tested fine, and so did all of the coil packs.... So now im lost again, allthough if it is an intermitten problem i would have to be lucky to get the damn thing to melfunction when im haveing it tested....... So now what, ..... i guess i should have asked while i was at autozone but does anyone know if they can test the comptuer ?.... all though, if its intermitten i probably wont be lucky enough for it to fail in front of them.... maybe its the crank sensor ? |

Re: im gunna blow this !@#$%^& car up !
I would put my money on the crank sensor, but ignition modules are known to fail when they get hot, and work fine when not. Since it takes a varying amount of run time to get the thing to fail, diagnosis can be very frustrating. When the car is acting up, do you have spark? If you do, you can eliminate the crank sensor and Ign module ans should start looking at the fuel system again. If you don't have spark, then one of the two is your problem.

i may just replace the crank sensor tonight for shits and grins, maybe itll fix it. allthough i had to replace the crank sensor on my 95 t bird V8, but the only probelm it gave me was not starting, if it would start it ran like a dream, but the sensor never effected the way it ran.

For the corrective action. I would go a head and do both, the crank sensor and the ignition module and all the coils. I did this job with a great pay back in return. I must have gained all my power back that has been missing for several years. Car runs magnificently. I'm actually squeeling the tires beyond belief. 50 Yds or so..... Do the crank sensor first. Buy it new from the auto shop. Get a good clean ignition module kit from a bone yard. You will save a lot of money if you just get a kit from an old piece of shit that only had 50k on it. Take it from a grand am if they got them there. That's what I used. Oh, and if you see a grand am there, make sure the Turbo isn't there. If it is, take it right away. But, the problem is most likely caused by heat soak. Refer to this URL for heat soak: http://members.fortunecity.com/slade901/automobile/Ignition_Troubleshooting.htm

Re: im gunna blow this !@#$%^& car up !
Well i didnt end up haveing to any new parts on the car, i had the igniton mod and coils tested and they where all fine.... put all that crap back on the car and it has ben running perfectly... so i would have to say there was a bad connection of sorts... all though i am a little on edge with driveing rite now because cars done normally fix them slefs... so as of now the car runs like its brand new, if the problem acts up again, be sure you will be reading my post lol.

Ignition modules fail when they're hot. Is there anyway you can put it on a hot plate and have it tested? I had one that would cut out on me when I was driving. I could let it cool for 10 minutes and get another 2 minutes of running out of it, 30 total from being dead cold.
The next one I had would run all day, but not start after it was shut off for 20 minutes or so. It had no spark until it sat for 2 hours or more. They are totally confounding and can be mistaken for almost any problem. But I'm like 4 for 4 in diagnosing a bad one, it is always the first part that I change if I have a start/run mystery. Bob |

"sock" filter
I had the same symptoms with an Olds. Figured out that it was the gas tank filter (mesh sock) at the fuel pump. I had added some strong injector cleaner to the tank and it must have cleaned off the residue inside the tank. The stuff would get sucked up to the fuel pump and clog up the sock filter, cutting off fuel supply. Car would die. Then it would start after setting awhile. The dirt would float away from the sock and allow the car to start. I thought I was fighting a heat/electrical problem. Had to replace filter and fuel pump and clean the tank. I do not know if our Luminas have the "sock" filter in the tank. Good luck.

My father passed away in Aug. and my Mother gave me his car. I was so hoping to have good luck with it, but it has been a nightmare,an intermittant nightmare!!!!( and that seems to be the main problem, with FINDING the problem it IS intermittant) Have you found out anything yet about your Lumina? I'm stumped, my mechanic has had it 11 days and has gotten no where with it, the car when it is not "acting Out" runs like a dream mobile down the road, like a new car! We have had the fuel pump replaced and that did not fix the problem, the mechanic tomorrow is supposed to replace the computer...could the computer be causing the problem?? I ask my mechanic about the crank sensor and he had not checked it, he said it is really hard to get to in the Lumina's...do you think after 11 days I should go get the car and take it somewhere else?...i'm completely stumped, please help! i need transportation!!!! And i'm really at my witts end, I don't know what to do!?? Any one, any suggestions will help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE Help...I'm losing it here! |

Re: im gunna blow this !@#$%^& car up !
I had a plymouth that did that. It turned out that there was a label in the gas tank that was floating around and would get sucked toward the fuel pump and it would shut down. After the car sat it would float away and it would run fine again for awhile. Not sure how a label would get in the tank seeing that I bought the car brand new and didn't get this figured out until after the 7 year/70,000 mile warranty. Not sure if this helps but it is one more weird thing that I have figured out the hard way owning cars.
