Q about a part in strut assy - Avalon 98

Hello Gang,

I'm baaaack... your service was great on my first post so I've decided to take advantage of both your knowledge and experience...

I have to replace the struts... I'm going KYB...
I replaced ealier today one of the rear struts... when I was about to discard of the old strut mount (Toyota refers to it as the suspension support) a piece fell out of it... it was the spring bumper... admitadly, I was unaware of this part's existance in that assy...

So, my 2-part question is as follows: what is the the exact function of this part and is it important enough to justify a "rerun" (which will likely take me about 45 minutes as the rear seat is still removed)?

TIA for any and all input...

BTW, is there a way to post pictures on this forum?
