Exploring subwoofer mounting locations (opinions)

The kid who had this car before me threw in a huge sub box (2 10's) that took up the entire cargo area... my solution is mounting the subwoofer in a custom enclosure to the left of the cargo area under the shelf. I test fit it in some paneling and carpeted it to see how it would look. Let me know what you guys think

Within the next couple weeks I'll be picking up some MDF and making a box to house the single 10" sub. The amp will also be mounted elswhere, TBD at this point...

Re: Exploring subwoofer mounting locations (opinions)

Looks good, I like it. Ive always been partial to 12s though but thats just me. I wanted to tuck two 12s in the sides with custom fiberglass work..but lost the time and interest.

Re: Exploring subwoofer mounting locations (opinions)

Looks good man, sort of like LadyNredSI used to have way back in the day except her's was pointing more towards the front of the vehicle. It's a great idea and free's up a whole lota room back there!!

Re: Exploring subwoofer mounting locations (opinions)

Thanks guys it sounds horrible right now since it's not in a sealed enclosure but I think once I build the custom box it should sound nice. I'm also ditching the off brand sub and 2-channnel amp in lieu of a better sub and mono amp

Re: Exploring subwoofer mounting locations (opinions)

Arent we all... I was amazingly lucky to find rear speaker pods in a junkyard..but no cover. Ive seen two that had holes cut for speakers but thats a nogo in my book.

Re: Exploring subwoofer mounting locations (opinions)

I used to have one, but lost it, don't have a clue where it is. The new one doesn't have one and I will have to find it.

Re: Exploring subwoofer mounting locations (opinions)

if it was a CRX, I'd tell you to just mount them in the floor behind the seats, facing more backward...

In a hatchback, you'll usually get the best sound if the sub(s) is/are pointing toward the center of the rear window, as you get the "echo" effect..

You won't hear the sharp "tinging" or "metallic" sound that most subs make on hard notes, and you won't notice reverb from inefficiencies in the construction of the enclosure.

Remember in the enclosure to use matting, so you don't get interior echo from the air pressure in the enclosure.

Re: Exploring subwoofer mounting locations (opinions)

I would point it towards the back, but I'm looking for maximum cargo space, since this is my daily driver... I'll be sure to get some matting
