2002 nissan sentra gxe key won't turn in ignition

I have a 2002 nissan sentra gxe 1.8 L and as of lately the key won't turn in the ignition. Sometimes i have to play with the key for 5 mins to get it to turn. Can anyone help me with this problem? I think it might be the ignition lock assembly. Does anyone know if i can take that apart and remove the locking mechinism so the key will turn no matter what?

you could, but i wouldnt. removing the locking mechanism means tearing into the column and changing things not meant to be changed. oh yeah and then you would be able to start your car with any key or any flat metal object. just replace the ignition lock cylinder.
