Now What Wrong With It?
Well after i put in a new compressor on my 1994 3.1 euro I'm having problems. while the ac is running the car will die or almost die, it has happen to me 4 times so far 1st while i was parked on the street 2nd time just after i finish stopping at a red light, 3rd and 4th while accelerating it almost died but then was recovered.
things i notice while the ac is running and steering is a bit harder and makes some noise, the mph needle jumps just when the volt meter goes under the half way mark and while i had the belt out i notice that the alternator sometimes made a high pitch noise while i turning it. and info would be great help. |

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
To isolate if the ac is the issue disconnect the compressor, also the bearing could be seizing in the pulley which you can tell by turning the pulley, not the compressor , belt off by hand.

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
it has never happen to me while ac is off only when i have the ac on. what do you mean disconnect the compressor? just unplug the connector at the bottom? i will try to spin the pulley tomorrow morning and let you guys know what is going on with that.
can it be a sensor? Crankshaft Position Sensor, Knock Sensor? thermostat? i put in a lower temp one |

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
If it only stalls using the ac focus on those components first. If you find nothing definitive , post back. Unplug it, yes. BTW, you should have a 195 t'stat.

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
sorry for the super long delay i had computer problems. well i change the thermostat things got better i drove on day with the ac on and it did not turn off or anything. but on Monday i turn the ac on after having the car wash and just before i even got the car into drive it turned off
. do you guys think there is a possibility that there is to much oil in the system or something been blocked? causing the compressor to try to push and then shutting off? i tried my best to replaced the exact amount of oil that came out of the accumulator. the only problem i could think off is that i could not find where the hell the white little tube goes I was in a race against daylight and i needed the car with running ac the next day so i thought it would be okay without changing it maybe i was wrong |

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
A compressor doesn't run continually unless you have a low charge of refrigerant. If you have a plugged strainer, or the white item you are talking about the compressor will stall smoke the belts.

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
I hate to disagree, but your V-5 compressor is designed to run continuously- it does not cycle- check your head pressure (high side) and see if it is excessive-- 300+ would be excessive.......

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
What caught me was him saying something about a white tube. he couldn't find where it went. Are you talking about the orfice? Did you leave that out? If so there could be the trouble. Yes TOO MUCH OIL WILL AFFECT the Compressor.

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
If you want air conditioning you will require the expansion valve in the white tube. I would suggest you buy a new filter drier accumulator and a new expansion valve. If its partially plugged and installed your system won't work. They aren't that small that you couldn't see it. The parts store sell both items. Are you watching the clutch as it moves in and out the compressor starts and stops. Does it make a noise when the clutch closes. I don't care what they say if you have a low charge your system doesn't work properly.
The compressor is not a direct drive it requires the above items and refrigerant to work. You always have some oil in the condenser and evaporator. Read your manual. |

Re: Now What Wrong With It?
well i got some bad news it still does it. i turned on the ac drove to new york city no problem, drove to state island no problem, was going down a street and i stop at e red light and the car turns off. it did not start the first time. second time it started and decided to keep ac off. yesterday i took it to a mechanic i know but don't real trust that much. he told me it could be the trans something about locking up but then i told him it only does it when the ac is running. then he told me maybe it could be the ECM. then i went to another mechanic that my uncle goes to and he told me the same thing about the trans locking up told me to unplug it to see if it turns off while i have the ac running then he told me to leave the car so he can take a look at it.
anyone have some input on anything they said could be the problem? things i notice when i turn the ac on and I'm on park i see the MPH needle move all the way to 40MPH ( not always just saw this happen on Monday) , also when the ac on air only comes out the front air ducks hope this helps somewhat |
