Plastic gas tank repairs

Some friends of my wife said kids are drilling a hole in the bottom of the tank to get gas.
Are their any repair procedures to fix a hole if needed. Any epoxies work for this.
What would you suggest junk yard tank or repair? If installing a new fuel pump
how much support do they need?

OH MY
BETTER CATCH THEM KIDS BEFORE THEY BURN THERESELF UP.
If they are using a electric or cordless drill They will be on fire one of these times.

They make some good epoxy repasir kits.
You need the type that is flexable for plastic tanks.
If the hole is not in fuel pump area jack one end of it up soe no fule seaps out and try a metal screw in hole with a washer and some kind of seal on it .
Then epoxy over screw and washer.

Good comp insurance should cover things like that or even give you a new fuel tank.
Good luck

Plastic gas tanks are not repairable. The easier way is to replace it.

Re: Plastic gas tank repairs

Thanks I hope I don't need to if it happens I will try the MT-2500 idea I have used a faucet washer and self tapper on metal tanks. When I had a garage you don't want gas dripping on the black top parking lot. You definately don't want it in the garage with smoking mechanics. I've caught them smoking when putting a fuel pump in.
Just getting to a junk yard and scheduling the work takes some time. I don't do work when its above 95 or 100 degrees.
Thanks again

Re: Plastic gas tank repairs

I remember as a kid, this mechanic was repairing a gas tank and ended up burning down his garage. I believe that is was a metal tank and was using a welding torch.

Re: Plastic gas tank repairs

I've used JB Weld epoxy to fix a seam leak on a metal tank, but it says right on the plastic tank "NOT REPAIRABLE".

Re: Plastic gas tank repairs

It is much easier to replace a gas tank than fixing it.The advantage is that you fix it once instead of 3 or more times.A guy in my area was killed last year, cutting a drum with a torch that had racing fuel vapors in it and it blew up his garage.
