88 Chevy Truck
Alright guys, I haven't been here in a while. My baby, my 88 silverado, needs help again.
Here's a refresher on what has been done to it. Reworked the body on it, painted it. Sold it on payments, kid blew it up and tore the bed up, I repoed it, put a 1963 283 in it. Ran it for a while and something is wrong with it (I don't like the engine anyway, I hate carburators). Flash forward to today, I have a 1993 Chevy WT1500 4.3L 4L60E. I am swapping the engine and trans, I know I have to change the ECM and wiring harness. I am going to pull it all at once hopefully if it will clear everything. WHERE IS THE ECM AT ON THIS DAMN TRUCK!!! |

Re: 88 Chevy Truck
On my 90 K1500, the ECM is behind the glove box. You have to remove the glove box liner to get at it.
Hope that helps but not sure if it is in the same place on 93 or 88. //2000CAYukon |

Re: 88 Chevy Truck
If it's the same location as the PRAM Chip, I think it's behind the glove box on mine, 95 1500

Re: 88 Chevy Truck
This may sound like a stupid question but here goes.
I disconnected the wiring harness and ECM in my 88. (this is the only year of the c/k i have really messed with) And I started to remove everything for my parts truck (93, I haven't taken it apart because it still runs and drives.) The wiring harness obviously is different, I knew I would have that, but there is an extra chip??? behind the glove box. It's white and was velcroed on to the backside of the dash. What is that? It connects to the wiring harness in the dash, do I need to change this too??? I really don't want to, as I just got a new cluster for my 88, and the connections are different than the 93. |

Re: 88 Chevy Truck
No, nothing like that it's an old city work truck, it's part of the factory wiring system.

Re: 88 Chevy Truck
I have the same year as your parts truck. It's called a digital ratio adaptor. If I'm not mistaken, it translates your VSS into MPH or KPH. It is specific to the tire size and rear differential gearing. If you are changing the instrument cluster from this vehicle, you might have to alter the circuit board inside this cover too. I remember an article in here, I think where someone explained how to do it yourself.

Re: 88 Chevy Truck
So basicly I need to change the wiring harness in the dash too so the computer will be able to give me the right speedo reading.
