1995 VW Engine Replacement/Overhaul?

Sup guys I have a questions that I am sure has been answered thousand of times but, cant find the posts. I have a 1995 jetta gl m/t and the fuel pump went out on it and took the engine with it. Does anyone know a good place to get a decent priced engine or advise if it might be better to overhaul it? The car was sounding like a diesel engine which I know isn't right and am looking for any help from anyone............Thanks for your time reading this post.............

Re: 1995 VW Engine Replacement/Overhaul?

I can't imagine the fuel pump causing major damage. Did you mean the oil pump? If you're going to fix it up and you did mean the fuel pump, you'll need a new one either way. If it was the fuel pump, try replacing it first and see how it performs. Check to see if the temperature is normal. Check the spark plugs to see if there are any unusual deposits.
If the engine is shot, check with a few non-chain repair shops. I got a newly rebuilt small block for $200 that the owner of the shop fixed up, then didn't need. If you rebuild your engine, make sure you take the engine to a machine shop first to be sure that there isn't anything too severe. In my case, my sister ran the car without oil and the block and crank shaft were worn beyond specification. The number one cylinder and pistons were damaged as well. The small block was by far my best choice and I would have gone that route even if I hadn't gotten such a good deal.

sorry a big mistypo........I did mean oil pump..........And from what I understand the oil that was in the engine was too thick for the pump to pass it through..........
