Drive sizes?
Here in America, our standard drive sizes for sockets are 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4 and 1". I was just curious what sizes are used when the metric system is the primary measurement in any given country.

Re: Drive sizes?
well, the sizes are universal. if you look in some of the German tool catalogues (ie Hazet, which is well worth a look) they list the sizes as 6.5mm, 10mm, 12.5mm, 20mm and 25mm. of course, these are just the metric equivalent for the imperial sizes.

Re: Drive sizes?
to be honest, i don't know because here in the UK we use the imperial sizes. i believe that most of the other countries that work in metric also refer to drive sizes in imperial, but it's just the tool manufacturers that list tools by metric drive sizes.
i've seen german eBay sellers refer to tools using imperial for the drive sizes, but other than that i'm not really sure.

Re: Drive sizes?
There is another drive size you never heard of and Snap On made them, 1 1/2 drive.I do not know if they make them.I do have an Uncle that is British,My Uncle Steve. He told me that the British call a wrench, a spanner.I hate the metric system for fasteners,5 differant thread pitches of metric bolts.

Re: Drive sizes?
yes, we refer to "wrenches" as spanners. 1-1/2" isn't something created by Snap-on, it's just a larger drive size reserved for industrial applications. Ingersoll-Rand make 1-1/2" impact guns and sockets. there are drive sizes above 2". they're just mainly for industrial applications.

3.5" square drive sockets! I wonder how many ft. lbs. those can take.

Our Matco guy comes on Fridays, I'll ask him what they cost from him. Anytime anyone asks our snappy dealer for a price on something, he orders it and expects you to buy it.... and he wonders why people avoid him . A guy I work with bought a tube of air ratchet grease... snappy comes in the next week with a tube of grease... and an air ratchet!

Our tool guys always complain when one guy there (he is annoying though) prices a bunch of stuff and then doesn't buy anything. It funny because he wont buy any new tools at all, cheap or name brand. There are times when a guy will ask about an item and our Snap-on dealer will order it in just so he can look at it. I guess he just ships the stuff back if the guy don't want it, he never complained about ordering it. |
