Repainting Trim

All the plastic trim on my car is fading. Waxing or some stuff my friend has called Black is Back brings the color and shine back for a day or two but then it just fades right back out. How much would it cost to have them repainted about?

EDIT: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=710267 is a link to my rims thread that has the pictures of my car.. it doesnt look too bad in this picture but its alot more obvious than it looks in the picture.

Re: Repainting Trim

What kind of trim are you talking about? The only "trim" piece that's really paintable is the cowl piece, other than that it's all a plastic/vinly covering. I use this stuff called Black Renew from Wizards that works very well on brining back faded trim, and it seems to last a long time, maybe you could give it a try.

Re: Repainting Trim

I've tried similar stuff as I mentioned, Maybe I will have to give that specific one a try though. it still keeps fading out. The trim I'm talking about is the stuff right under the doors by the way.

Re: Repainting Trim

I think he's talking about the trim in the wheel well. That would be a pain to try and keep from drying do to the beating it takes.

Re: Repainting Trim

The balck rubber seals?

***EDIT***
OK, the rest of the pics weren't up when I first saw the post. Just the wheel well was up, so, I don't believe there is any piant for rubber/plastic seals.

Re: Repainting Trim

Sorry for not being clear... The red plastic trim that is under the door...

The bottom half of this picture. Like I said earlier It looks a lot worse in person than it does in these pictures.

Sorry I was MIA for a few weeks to not clear up what I was trying to figure out.

Re: Repainting Trim

That's not "plastic" trim. They're painted with the exact same stuff as the rest of the car, basecoat/clearcoat. You can try buffing them, but they'll probably never perfectly match unless you paint the whole car at once.

Re: Repainting Trim

Yeah, thats the side skirt and as garrett said, it has to be painted along with the rest of the car. Garrett, do you think a wet sand and clear coat can make it better?

Re: Repainting Trim

A wet sand and buff would bring a faded part back to life (not need to put more clear on it), but I'm not sure if that sideskirt is faded, it looks mismatched, like its off a different red eclipse or something.

Re: Repainting Trim

Ok, the front of the skirt is a separate piece? Yeah, looks like they are two different colors.

Re: Repainting Trim

The side skirt paints on these cars always fade. When I got my car the paint was in great condition but the side skirts hard still faded. No way of fixing it without repainting them. I wonder what makes the sides fade fast than any other part on the car?

Re: Repainting Trim

I wouldn't doubt them not being the originals, this car seems to have been through a lot before I bought it... Had different rims on it, subs, all torn out before I bought it... Was also in an accident we assume by the damage to the drivers side. The reason I say plastic is because the very left bottom peice was missing when I bought the car and the part we recieved was plastic if I'm not mistakin...

Re: Repainting Trim

Yeah the sideskirts and door cap are definitely plastic (well, urethane actually, but for your sake we'll call them "plastic ). I'm guessing they fade alot faster because of what they're made of, but that is a much different color than the rest of the car, not just faded red. A wetsand and buff should bring them back to life somewhat, but like I said earlier, you'll need a total repaint to get them to match the rest of the car.
