Main relay issues.

I Just put my rebuilt B2 into my new Civic... (89 DX) I plugged the wiring harness back in, went to start it, and the main relay clicks non-stop... I changed it out for the relay that was in my other civic, and it doesn't do that anymore, but it doesn't click at all... just looking for an idea of what to check for..

When I use the new relay, it still turns on the ECU and such... just no clicks... so could I have missed a ground when I swapped the dash out or something? Has anyone else had any issue like this?

Looking for something to fix to get this thing running... it's been 3 weeks since I started on it.

All I have left to do is get the crank pulley on, (using a ZC balanced pulley) and put the alternator belt on, intake piping, finish putting the exhaust downpipe on, and fix this stupid lil problem..

and I'd like to get it fixed as soon as possible... b/c I really need the car.. I have to find a way to get back to new york in 3 weeks for court.

Re: Main relay issues.

Check the thermostat ground for sure. mine was loose once and the damn relays would click like mad everytime I hit a hard bump. And the car would die momentarily.

Re: Main relay issues.

It's just the main relay, but I'm going to go over all the grounds anyway before I actually try to start the engine... I'm going to make sure that when I xfer'd the wiring from the dash to the new dash that I didn't miss a ground under there too... funny cuz the car never did this before I changed the dash and engine in it... so I'm thinking it's something I messed up...

Thx Frodo.

Re: Main relay issues.

I'm working on it... I was thinking about keeping a running record of it during cleanout and installation... and the wiring nightmare under the dash... who patched the wires into the dizzy for an aftermarket tach?

PS.. issue fixed.. it was the thermostat ground and the underdash (gauge cluster) ground. Car runs great now... exhaust is horribly loud... not my thing, so I"m going to put the 1 pc exhaust off my old civic on it.

Ya I ran a wire from the dizzy for a tach. Didn't you see the one pic I had of it with the 5" monster tach? Lol, and I also told you it was LOUD. LOL, if you don't want that muffler I'll take/buy it back off you. I can always find sumtin to put it on.

Re: Main relay issues.

What do you wanna give me for it? I actually kept the whole exhaust including cat and reso... if you want the whole thing back, offer me something for it... I could use the cash.. or a decent set of 205/40R16's

Re: Main relay issues.

oh, and can someone take a pic of the ground location of the dash wiring harness? I think I have it in hte wrong place, and the horn doesn't work now.

Re: Main relay issues.

oi... mine doesn't reach that far... I have it bolted to a spot that was bare metal on the bracket that the steering column connects to... though I fear that my horn problem may not be in the dash ground now... I'm thinking it's in the wiring somewhere, and I'm prolly just going to rewire the horn and call it a day.

Will the steering column from a 'teg fit in our cars?

Re: Main relay issues.

Dunno. And I don't imagine that bracket is the best ground. Yes it is one, but its also a piece of metal attached to a painted car. I dunno.
