Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

the bolt is not reverse threaded u have to use an impact gun with at least 100psi and hit it three or four times disconnect main motor mount to lower motor and use a floor jack to lower the motor and then u can impact it.. but when u go to put it on make sure not to impact it too hard because u can spin the pulley on the belt good luck

Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

no need to lower the motor... i reach mine perfectly... and all you need is a 700ft/lb impact gun and a compresor will 120psi in the line.. it wont stand a chance.. however DONT use that gun to put it back on.. itll never come off.. i use a smaller, shitty impact with about the spec torque rating on the bolt and it goes right on.

Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

i find it easier because the timing belt is more exposed and when u have big hands u need all the room u can get

Red face Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

I drove my car to a neighborhood mechanic, had him zap it off then put it back on, not so tight. Charged me $20

And while we're on the subject, my timming belt seems to have some slack on the front side. i replaced the tensioner and all, could the slack come from not properly aligning the TDC marks on the cam and crank?

completely normal if u did everything right as long as one side has tension

Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

a little slack is ok on the front side... did you remember to turn the crank 3 teeth bacward after you set the backside tension? that will eliminate most of your slack.

Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

no it will not because u are relying on the torque of the impact gun to take the bolt out if u use a bar ur just gna turn the pulley and the timing belt wont move hence timing reset and it still wont work so air compressed impact only man

Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

Depending on how tight it is... if you put the car in 1st gear, and have a friend press the brakes... then take a braker bar with a long extension... rest the end of the extension on a jack stand to steady it... it MIGHT come off that way

Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

i got one of those strap things from jegs cuz i dont have an impact..mines a little different looks kind of like a coilover adjuster..goes onto the flywheel to hold it in place..biggest waste of money..it bent trying to hold it..but i had my motor out of the car so i could lever against the crank..but it can be taken off without an impact..but if the motors in the car id definately do it to save yourself a headache..

Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

I was told this crankcase bolt on my 1999 Honda CRV is reverse threaded. Is it true?

Re: can't remove crankcase pulley bolt

Honda sells a tool that holds the pulley in place for those that have no access to air tools, looks something like this:

Alot of companies make them actually. Although you'll never use it more than a couple times.
Air tools on the other hand...
