95 cavaliar 2.2 liter Overhead Valve vin 4, miliage 113,000
I had the headgasket replaced by the dealer about 4 years ago , maybe about 30,000 miles on it. now this one is leaking. Is this a problem common to the regular gaskets the shops use, and is there another type of gasket that's made that will hold up better than the ones commoning used? I just paid about $700 to have the timing chain replaced. I think I've heard that there are 3rd partys parts stores that sell a better more durable gasket. Idont want to have to keeep relacing the gasket. |

Re: 95 Cavaliar reoccuring headgasket leak
Usually if you go to a GM dealer they will replace it with the shitty kind they take out, a cheap one. Buy a Fel-Pro or however you spell it head gasket, they are a metal gasket and work VERY well, my friend has a 95 Cavi as well with 262,000 KMs replaced his headgasket at about 200,000KM with a Felpro and not a problem since and he beats the hell out of the car, also a 2.2. Hope this helps!

Re: 95 Cavaliar reoccuring headgasket leak
I've checked into the gasket and most parts stores carry the fel-pro. I think the Dealer damaged the gasket when they replaced the timing chain. Im going to see if the dealer will pick up all or some of the replacement costs. I appreciate your information.

Re: 95 Cavaliar reoccuring headgasket leak
Thanks for replying to the post. By Copper head Gasket do you mean a Brand name or is it actually a gasket made of Copper? Ive looked up headgaskets on Advaced Auto.com and it lists another gasket besides the FEL-Pro, I think it said it was made of metal?

Re: 95 Cavaliar reoccuring headgasket leak
most are made of metal with an outer sealing layer on it so do not bend any gasket with a metal inner core or the damage is...... get a new gasket or suffer through the job again.
