Ashtray wont stay closed
I had an xm radio plugged into the lighter for two years and the adapter plugged into the lighter was a tight fit. Last month i took the XM radio out and now my ash tray wont stay closed. Everytime i hit the gas it opens up and i spend the day fighting with it like a lunatic
![]() Is there a solution to fixing this problem?

Re: Ashtray wont stay closed
Yeah If you take out the whole thing, you should see whats going on. Part of the metal holder touches the plastic, and doesnt work very well, or could be broken. Four screws obvious when its open, and one up through a hole in the bottom.

Re: Ashtray wont stay closed
I used JB Weld and built up the plastic slides.

Is that what prevents it from sliding open? The plastic slides? Also, What is JB Weld ?

Re: Ashtray wont stay closed
Apply JB Weld so as to tighten the slides.
J-B WELD is packaged in two tubes. One contains liquid steel/epoxy resin, and the other contains hardener. When mixed together in equal portions, a chemical reaction occurs that turns the mixture into a compound as hard and tough as steel -- and with similar properties. |
