89 si FI Less than half the power

89 si fi 2.0, a radiator line busted yesterday, I replaced it, but now the motor has little power. the engine shakes and sputters up to 3000 rpm. I dont know what the problem could be, theres smoke underneath the intake manifold when i turn off the motor and it almost smells like burning plastic but i dont see anything back there thats melted at all. please help Im completely stumped.

check the oil level, check compression, and keep an eye on the coolant. oh and reading spark plugs is useful also. it sounds like you may be ingesting oil into the combustion chamber of one or more cylinders... maybe. but i would need to know more to say for sure.

Re: 89 si FI Less than half the power

I took care of the white smoke by pressure washing the motor, now for the half power problem, I think it was just coincidence that it happend right after the hose busted. Im thinking the cataliticconverter is clogged so im going to test that out today. it makes sense actually cause when you first start the car it runs fine for about a minute, after the minute when the cat gets hot it loses power again. What do you think?

makes sense. also you could check the operation of the coolant temp sensor.
