2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiring Diagrams?

Anyone know where i can find these online? I don't want to buy a complete service manual, just doing a GPS Navigation System install and i need to find the VSS and backup lights wiring.

Check your local library. They usually carry car repair manual books.

Not around here unfortunately, already checked. These small town libraries don't have the budget to carry stuff like that.

You use to be able to download the 2000 FSM, but it is gone.
I have one...what is the VSS, maybe I can look it up for you.

Re: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiring Diagrams?

The VSS is the Vehicle Speed Sensor, on most vehicles i have worked to install these on the signal is usually available to both the PCM and the BCM, its better to find a place to tap into it inside the vehicle so you don't have to worry about routing wires out through the firewall, etc. Just makes a cleaner install.

I also need to find the backup light circuit, more specifically the wire that supplies power to the backup lights in the rear, its usually available somewhere under the dash in the harness that supplies the rear of the vehicle on the drivers side.

If you have a service manual with diagrams and a scanner and you have the time to do it send over the scans and then i can assemble them into a .pdf file and make it a smaller single file that might also help others on here. Just let me know and i will give you an email address to contact me directly!

Re: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiring Diagrams?

For anyone wondering what i am working on here it's a Horizon Navigation NavMate system. I have the NavMate 2.0 installed in my Trans Sport and love it. I'm starting to install it in others vehicles who liked mine.. lol

I don't want to go out and buy a manual for every install, and so far this 2001 Jeep Cherokee is the only on that has stumped me on finding some diagrams/schematics for free.

The VSS signal gets used by the NavMate to calculate vehicle movement in the event of a GPS signal loss, and it also makes the system immediately usable rather than waiting for a GPS lock to navigate from. The backup light connection just tells the system quickly that your changing direction. It has a gyro's in it and it doesn't even need a GPS signal after the initial 3d lock and calibration. The company did a one year test, after calibration they removed the GPS antenna and drove an entire year without a GPS signal. Still worked dead perfect. I have had mine lose the GPS signal in cities with tall buildings or tunnels, etc, still shows my position on the screen perfectly.

Re: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiring Diagrams?

That helps some, but i don't see the VSS anywhere. There is a input and output speed sensor for transmission control on that diagram but not the VSS that feeds the computer and speedometer/odometer.

Re: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiring Diagrams?

If i could trouble you for one more diagram?

In the VSS circuit it calls out diagram 8W-30-12, could you find that one for me?

I want to know more about the routing of that signal, it would appear its comes from the VSS sensor on the back end of the trans and then goes to the body harness at C107 or C113, AT or MT trans, and then follows the main harness to C2 on the PCM.

It would be nice to know for sure where its going though and i assume that diagram called for will show it in better detail.

Thanks!

Re: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiring Diagrams?

Awesome! That diagram confirmed what i was thinking, the VSS signal is also supplied to the DRL, Daytime Running Lights module to indicate the vehicle is in motion and turn them on. It also confirms that it goes through connector C107 which is at the back top of the engine coming from the main harness across the back of the engine compartment.

One last question, i looked in the connector location info and couldn't find it, but maybe i just missed it, do you happen to know where the DRL module is located? I was thinking if its inside the vehicle that would be easier to route to then going out through the firewall to the engine compartment.

Thanks!!!

Re: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiring Diagrams?

Wait, nevermind, i found it. The DRL module is in the back corner of the engine compartment on the passenger side. I missed that in the connector location list the last time i checked.

Now on to the install, once i get it all done i will have to post up some pictures of the work.

Thanks again for the help!!

Re: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiring Diagrams?

Kul (or Cool)...I was going to say the DRL is only used in Canada, but I guess it is in the harness.
