non turbo question

ok ok so this is what i have found out that turboing(spelling????) is going to cost a pretty penney so i think that i am going to do a naturaly asperated system (once agian spelling) but that was the plan when i first got it but this is the new question. even with tunning the balls out of the car and getting heads and new and better clutch with port and polishing the heads and getting block work and all that crap what do you think that the speend will be like and when i say doing all that stuff i mean all of that stuff for the engine

Post was kinda hard to understand, so let me see if I got this right...
You have a 98 Spyder
You wanted to turbo but cost to much
You want to go N/A all the way

So far so good? What's speend? How much you spend?

Staying N/A and going for a fast car is hard work. Especially if you're talking about building a block the whole engine for an N/A application. Take me for example, I spent around $2,000 to fully build my head to gain x amount of power. For that same price, I could have gotten a turbo kit and gained xx amount of power.

Turbo kits can be cheap if you piece one together. Honestly, if you're going to be building everything up, go for a turbo. Go with some low compression pistons and good rod combo and slap a E16G on there. With all the supporting mods, you'd be good on power.

And to bust out the dyno sheets again, I know we have different engines, but stock the 420a gets ~112whp. With all the thousands I've spent, I hit 144whp. Is that worth it to you?

Re: non turbo question

Dave is right. As far as spending money goes you will spend way more money staying NA and doing a lot of mods to get more power. If you turbo your car yes it will cost more up front but the car will have way more patential. Like Dave said you could spend thousands and gain 30whp if you stay NA. I have about the same amount of money in my turbo kit as Dave has in his head and I dynoed 188whp. The choice is yours.

Re: non turbo question

I think maintenance, however, will be less in the long run staying N/A. Less parts to fail and go wrong. Plus you don't have to worry about blowing turbo seals or anything along that line. But again, expensive to get there.

Re: non turbo question

If he has a spyder than he has the 4g64 SOHC motor. We were just giving him examples of NA vs turbo. He needs to talk to VG to see if its worth the money.

Re: non turbo question

You can piece together a kit for pretty cheap. Get everything used and in decent shape... you can get one together for ~$600.

Re: non turbo question

Well I got a nice T4 at home already so that eliminates a big part. Hell I got a couple parts at home.

Re: non turbo question

Please try type in readable sentences, it makes it much easier to read. I had a great website on a DIY turbo kit for the 420a, let me see if I can find it.

Re: non turbo question

if you have the 4g64 spyder, why not just slap on a 4g63 1g head, and 272 cams, then the oem 2g manifold, an E316G and run a 2.3L stroker???? i dont understand what is so hard... i mean, yeah, you need more money in it then say, like me but the only real difference is you have to buy a head... which i'm going to do sooner or later... but you already have the stroker motor... whats the difference? fuel pump, dsmlink, eprom, injectors, FPR, same stuff... sounds to me you have a pretty nice start at what you are trying to do...
