2000 Elantra transmission troubles?

2000 Elantra SW, 211k mileage, no previous engine or tran problems...

Saturday, going apx. 25 mph, acted like I had slipped the lever into NEUTRAL, wouldn't connect for apx. 5 seconds, then engaged again and I made it home.

Later that afternoon it did it again but this time did not re-engage. 2,1, and Reverse all work fine.

There had been a "growling" noise in the front end, sounded like from the passenger side for several months. Would notice it on deceleration, but the second I applied any gas pedal pressure it went away. Dealer couldn't find a problem about two weeks ago.

It's being towed to the dealer tomorrow...any thoughts?

Hmm, sounds like you're low on fluid maybe? First thing I would do, when you get it back, drain the fluid. Refill with Amsoil synthetic universal automatic transmission fluid. Drive it a little, see what happens... that stuff is great. www.amsoil.com

Just got the word the transmission is shot...$1500 for a new one installed. Still cheaper than a new car...thanks.
