Hi, Newbie here.
I'm presently breaking a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina APV, is anyone in the UK is interested. She has a 4.9L engine, (and before anyone asks if I'm sure it's a 4.9L , yes it is, I put it in myself!), which I would like to keep as it's only done around 12K miles. But all else is looking for new homes. We're near Camberley in Surrey, GU17 area. I need to get it outa the garage pdq, as I've another Lumina APV to get in there!! The Pontiac TransPort is similar to the Lumina APV, in case anyone asks!!

But unfortunatley I want to keep it, as it has only done around 12,000 miles from new, and I want to eventually "transplant" it into my "new" Lumina APV. The New Lumina is only a 3.1L and boy do I notice the difference?? Plenty more bits looking for a new home tho! |

Re: Breaking for spares?
I think telling a bit more about that swap would enlight a great audience. I guess this is not a simple bolt off bolt on job....and the electronics had to be transplanted too...and doing it all in U.K. with what I think must be limited availability of second hand parts makes it an exploit....I'm looking forward to hear more...

It was an interesting exercise certainly, and i was a complete novice before then. Things had to be re-sited, moved, changed, etc to fit it all in, but i had to lose a few things, like Air Con, radio, glove box, rear heater and fan etc to make room. But to get the power I wanted under the hood, I reckoned those were little things I could do without. Must admit, I didn't use 100% Chevy parts, some were just unobtainable, and had to be made. The Project took me 2 1/2 years to finish, but i didn't care -- I was on a learning curve, and besides my male friends had a bet on whether I could finish it, (being a woman an all!) When I got her to the UK, I decided to try and fit another fuel Tank underneath. It was bril -- I was the only one in my immediate area who wasn't sitting in the queue when the petrol was short! With the two tanks (total 93Liters) full, and careful driving habits, I managed to sail thru the shortage without any hassles! |

Re: Breaking for spares?
I beg to differ
I am in Spain ,UK roots. Always back there . Parts here are bloody impossible to find and we have to import them from American or the Uk which takes anything up to two weeks .( Last thing ordered from the Uk was flasher units and after three weeks think that they arent going to arrive at all). I would be one of those ones interested in parts as we have a few problems at the moment ... See seperate battery post as one of them Regards Michelle |

Re: Breaking for spares?
Hi Michelle,
Have you tried USAutomotive ??. They are very good and most things you order arrive the next day. Oviously it will take a bit longer to get over to Spain. http://www.usautomotive.co.uk/store/Scripts/default.asp Paul Taylor. Reading, Berkshire. |

Re: Breaking for spares?
I don't see any point in souping up a Mini Van. I would love to transplant a motor into my 1990 Volvo 240. Like a V6 something I can see it would fit in there easily, but getting it to fit is another problem. I would love to get a 7 cyl in there if I had $$$ to spare. I would make a great drift car....
I know it could take a 305 Corvette engine, as it has been done to a Station Wagon Volvo. (Aka Volvette.) here in the US. Burns rubber in all gears at that performance level. |
