'98 Plymouth Voyager stalls out when cold
Hello,
I have a '98 Plymouth Voyager with about 150,000 miles on it that is stalling out. It appears to happen only when the engine is cold and the outside temps are in the 30's or so. I have had the vehicle for a number of years. It seems to drive fine in summer and winter months but this time of year (spring/fall) when the temps are cool you can start the car fine but after driving a short distance when I pull to a stop, the RPMs will fall off and the engine will quit? It will start up again right away although I may need to give it some gas pedal before it does. I can keep it running if I use the old trick of using my left foot on the brake to stop and my right foot on the gas pedal a little. Of course, that's not a safe way to drive and my wife and kids drive this car so I need to figure out what's up. After it warms up, I have no problems with this. I don't have a whole lot of history on the maintenance (other than oil/brakes etc) but I do know most of the mileage was hi way miles. I am suspecting the O2 sensors have never been replaced so this may be my first step? I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks in advance, Gary |

Re: '98 Plymouth Voyager stalls out when cold
What engine?
Check and clean Idle Air Control Valve, If you remove IAC install new O-ring before installing, Check and clean throttle body CHeck for codes, this can be done for free at autozone, and other parts stores., or use the key dance method. Post any codes. |

Thanks for the reply. I will check into the IAC and throttle body. I have heard of checking the codes with the key but have never been able to get it right. Is there a thread on how to do this? I have tried a search but either I am not doing it right or the search function is not very intuitive. Thanks again, Gary |

Re: '98 Plymouth Voyager stalls out when cold
Key Dance: turn ignition switch on/off, on/off, on without starting engine. I believe the codes if any should appear in the odometer. If that doesn't work watch for the cel to flash. IF this is the case light will flash pause flash flash meaning code 12 (Example)
